Reinvention Redemption by DJ Robb
The storyline sounded interesting for me, travel, action and adventure, maybe a bit of romance...
Love charities with a pull at my heartstrings so I pitch in to help. Some book proceeds will go towards a good cause, get your copy today, find out how to get it for free.
Candice Parker meets D at the coffee shop ... They become better acquainted over coffee and it's her birthday.
Love hearing of the nature explorations on their journeys. Loved learning all about the techniques used in designing and redesigning houses ...
Many times while reading I'd burst out in loud laughter and others would glance over at me as it's NOT something I do often. Adult situations.
As they leave TN and head to the western states we learn more about the mysteries and more mysteries arise.
It all comes to a head while they are on the road, I didn't see it coming myself but was fun learning how it all came about.. how everything is connected.
So much more happens that alter the outcome as you could foresee it happening. With the detailed descriptions I feel as if we are riding along on the adventure of a lifetime.
I love a book that will teach me new things, words, new places to explore and I like action, nature, walking and mystery and adventure. Even the food described is part of the whole picture. Easy to keep track of the colorful characters along the way.
This book has that and so much more-especially as there is another book already with a 3rd being worked on.
Love what the book stands for, redemption and paying it forward- some book proceeds will go towards a mobile unit to distribute needles, help them get a second chance.

SYNOPSIS:

In this second book of the trilogy, D teams up with the vivacious Vic, aka, Victoria Lawson, Attorney at Law, to fill the great abyss left by his dream girl, Candice Parker, gone rogue. Raw confessionals between Vic and D, spilled in the wilds of Saskatchewan, exorcises their demons, and prepares them for the dangers that await their return to the States.

With bullets flying, D sends Vic away to keep her out of harm’s way, before tackling R.J. Standford, the Ponzi- scheming banker who has an enormous bounty on his head. Toss in Candice Parker’s extended ‘Family,’ the Gambino’s, who will also benefit from his immediate demise, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a mess!

To quote Oscar Wilde, “Every saint has a past...every sinner has a future,” prophetic words played out in the lives of these three misfits seeking to turn Redemption into Restoration with a little dose of Retribution thrown in.

Will D settle for Victoria, his kindred Spirit, whose moniker ‘all fur coat and no knickers’ no longer applies or will D’s unrequited feelings for Candice propel him back into her ongoing chaos?

One thing is for certain, there is bound to be hell to pay.

Like Momma always said, “When you play with fire, you’re gonna get burned.”

MY REVIEW:

Reinvention Retribution (Reinvention Series Book 2) by DJ Robb
Reading the first book will tell the whole story and this one has just glimpses into the first book so you’re not left out in the dark.
After reading the first book I became mesmerized. I finally figured out why. Just the way the story is told, some narrative, some subconscious thoughts really give you a feel for the characters.
This author reminds me SO much of Nelson DeMille and how his stories are told and evolve. Love the little remarks about 'points' .
This book starts out in Canada and Vic and D are regrouping after Candace has left in a rogue manner.
Chapters where Candace is in FL with her family and what's going on in her life while we are along for another ride with Vic and D.
Love all the nature, travel, romance, scenery as it's displayed in front of us, as if we can see it for ourselves. Love scenes and fun bantering throughout. All the new things on this extension of the journey, some new words for me to look up-love learning new words. Love how he gets others interested and their own way of helping the cause.
All the instances of paying it forward continue in this book. Easy to pay it forward and help this worthy charity cause for a needle exchange program in a mobile unit.
I like series books but I need to read new things and this one delivers that and more. A different side to the main characters and you learn new things about them, their past, and their future.
Twists and turns throughout and you don’t see them coming. Adult situations.
Can’t wait for the next book.

The Indenture of Ivy O'Neil by Diane Helentjaris
1690  Ireland. Ivy and her sister Honora are berry picking and they hear turmoil at the house.
This story follows the life of Ivy as she's brought to the US and is sold as a slave and has years to work it off...
Love everything to do with weaving, spinning, knitting, loom work, dyeing of the wool and so much more.
This story fascinated me as there's never a dull moment. Survival of the fitness.
Travel,  twists and turns and romance to religion, survival, history of the new world all told in a fun way.
Very captivating story from beginning to end. This could possibly be my favorite for the whole year it's that strong of a story.
Received this review copy from AIA Publishing and this is my honest opinion.

To Win a Highlander's Heart, Guardians of the Isles, Book 3 by Gerri Russell
1742 Story starts out with Aria recalls the past and she came to be in the human world but she lives in the fairy world also.
Love hearing of the myths and legends of the fairies, treasured flag and portals.
Story also follows Isolde, she just wants to be a warrior and has trained for years.
She had been banished from the family castle when her aim at the target was wrong due to her opponent jarring her.
She keeps herself safe and learns new healing methods by watching nature.
She also had to spy on them as the English had captured her.. Upon her escape she is met by Orrick and he protects her and she helps to fight the intruders at his castle.
Love how it all ends despite all the battles and turmoil. With them all working together they can get their boy back also.
Love secret places and just how they are able to survive.
Author's note on writing this series is included at the end.  About the author is also included.
Adult situations.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Love Thy Neighbor by Mark Gilleo
Clark was attending VA Polytech, which my real uncle taught at and lived in Blacksburg, VA.
He has to go back home and really tend to his mother after his trip to Japan for robot show.
Story also follows other neighbors, one who is from Pakistan and he's there to help out with her daughter and husband who's a mechanic. They must rush back home as her father is gravely ill.
That's not exactly where she goes...Really interesting story surrounding terrorists that is a true crime story.
So many details and it seems nothing is forgotten. She really knows how to put a plan together.
Other events occur and you don't see the connections til later but you don't forget them.
Many other neighbors also come into play...Love the very detailed plans and things Clark remembers to take down the terrorists.
Such knowledge of signals he recalls from his father that is the final connection...
Never saw this really happening but it's real and I think of the harm if not been caught in time.
Can't wait to read more from this author. Descriptions are so detailed, I felt as if I was there witnessing it all.
Received this review copy from The Story Plant and this is my honest opinion.

The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews
Like this book about a woman who comes into town and bought an old farmhouse sight unseeen, but online photos.
She runs into a lot of problems but the real estate agent is there to help her.
She cleans out the house of all the belongings of the previous owners and comes across a note to santa where a girl asks him for her father for Christmas.
The past owners were not only very giving folks but he played santa. Handful of people, easy to keep track of.
Like how it ends and how things all add up. Delightful holiday read.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Artima's Travels, Part II by E. A. Dustin
This book starts out with Ella and she's at the cemetery and her father who she had never met was being buried. Nobody knows her there. She and her friend Rusty are working on the game together and they spend a lot of time together.
She knows her mother is busy with work, she's always traveling but Ella is almost 18 so she can be left alone.  She realizes that she has a step brother-same father as her and she plans ahead with Rusty to meet him soon. She's got a look about her that he recognizes right away and  he is able to explain about family things by showing her very old pictures of when their grandfather was serving the Nazi government.
All he has to do is look at a picture and the full story comes to light. He's got a  brain implant, like her father had. He needs to visit the lab in LA and she will go with him to learn more about the family she never knew.
She lies to get there and when she gets in trouble she's not able to phone her mom every day...
Love the subject as it's possible I feel and know others are using microwave signals for bad purposes these days, it's so realistic to me.
Travel, brainstorming, sci fic technology, history, super plot to bring it to the end.
Know where Ella gets a lot of her character traits from after having read the first book in the series.
Couldn't put this one down, glad my chores were all done today. Super read, one of my top 5 for this year.
Love all reference notes at th eend and it's real history.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

MY REVIEW:

A Summer of Wonder by Hilary Dartt
Great story, feel as if I got two stories for the price of one.
The diary involves a lot of past history and thoughts on many subjects.
Other part of the story is the real life, present time where the daughter is heading off to college soon.
Father of daughter wants a divorce as he's lost his love for his wife. Mother just goes about her business, keeping lists and things to do.
Love the road trip and they end up at Mama Katherine's where they learn so many past secrets that explain a lot of things...
Sisters nudge Sara into fighting for him in their own ways.
Can't wait to read more from this author as she digs into deep thoughts about subjects that matter to me.
Like that different generations are in this book, series each with their own problems in today's world.
Devastating news from Mama Katherine, hits me hard as she has what I have.
Very descriptive and there are not only fun times but sad ones also, passion, adventure, travel and charity work and getting out of their comfort zones.
Excerpt from next book is included at the end.  About the author is also included.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Sweat by Mark Gilleo

Fascinating read, lots of action internationally and politics.

Has a human side also as a visiting Senator gets a Chinese sweat shop worker pregnant. Others in high places find out also and he thinks by paying it will be done with...

Son who returns to work at his father’s company also hears of things and he reaches out to help.

Travel, action, mafia, stalkers, different careers and so much more. Adult situations.

Love following the detectives around as they find the clues to solving this mess. Shocking what son does, to bring justice ...

Excellent read for many genres and readers. Really appreciate this author's works.

Received this review copy from The Story Plant and this is my honest opinion.

Nothing to Lose by Phil M. Williams
Story starts out with Joe and he's only got a handful of days to remain in his house.
The neighbors are to blame and he know who has done things to him and his family.
He really wants to retaliate. He has a lot of plans and we learn about the neighbors and his wife.
A kitten has a litter and only one surviving baby is left whom he adopts. he bottle feeds them.
Love how his plans are action packed and no detail is left out. Author is so descriptive with the details and the things one must be aware of to keep their security safe.
Tech stuff is right on target  and he uses it to his advantage. He never gives up finding out who murdered his wife.
I don't like thrillers and suspense but this author I  will read a book a day, get my chores done early to get the book done by dinner time.
At time I was scared and some scenes are not for the weak at heart but he keeps the hard core gore out of the book.
Can't wait for another one!

From Nothing by Ken Goldstein
Really enjoy the world of coding and the atmosphere surrounding their every day.
Love team effort when those who had stood up for them are banished and then beaten, almost to death.
Events occur and his whole life changes and I love the music injections. It's my favorite bands, genres and lyrics from my own playlists!
Mix the coding and music together and this is a book for everybody. Has it all and then some, especially the features added at the end of the book, discography.
Inner workings of a company, the music, the travel and the camaraderie of the teams.
Can't wait to read the author's other works. He knows how to tell an interesting story.
Received this review copy from The Story Plant and this is my honest opinion.

MY REVIEW:

Making Your Mark | Leaving a Legacy | And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin’ by Peter Davidson
Really enjoyed this read for many reasons.
Sheds light on such a dark subject.  Author makes it fun to put in place things that will have others laughing and not crying at the services.
Author definitely made it fun and gives you specific ideas  (even websites to achieve the goals) of what you can do to lighten the mood at the funeral, etc.
Everything you need to get ready is in this book in a nice format. How to collect information the next of kin will be left with along with hidden treasures.
We have done some planning, paying ahead of time and have a plan for how the others will deal with things, It's all written out with finances included but they can do it their way also.
We just want a simple celebration of life and this book explains what that can look like and about leaving a legacy of the things you have done in your life. They will talk about you and the word will spread, thus making you a legend.
I do have a binder I keep all my treasures in along with letters from others about my work for them. It’s things that many know about me and my charity work. .
There are some things I wrote in the obit for the funeral home calling siblings by their nicknames will bring a smile to so many.
Not going to wait for the word from the doctor,  but start doing more things when spouse retires, we hope within a month, while we can still get around well and take our time.
Love scavenger hunt notes, I used to do this when babysitting, kids loved it.
Like the example of the passwords but ours are 20 characters long and no real words. When asked what my fathers middle is, it's NOT his real name but something like pencil. Something nobody would really know.
Like the ideas about how to use things in the house and get them to work when you're gone. Love list of contractors that will work on particular products in your house. Valuable information for everybody.
Enjoyed this book so much, can't wait to read more from this author.

The Return by Nicholas Sparks
This story starts out with Charlie and he's getting over PTSD while at his grandfather's house. He had recently passed away and Charlie tries to figure out some clues from their last conversation.

He also meets a young woman who waitresses at the local store.  There are mysteries about her also.
He's healing not only his PTSD but he plans to go back to get a degree himself. Love the travel they do to find out about the missing girl.
Love the beekeeping an all about it, never realized so many things. Love time Charlie and Natalie spend with one another till he agrees to do one thing for her, it's devastating to me but it works for them...
or does it?  Medical emergencies bring them back together to work on the case as they find the clues and where they lead.
Undetrstanding different treatments that will work for some with PTSD helps me and my son, the boat is super and info about bees, pricesless.
Didn't expect the ending, usually these types of books are not happy moments at all.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Summer Hearts by Josie Riviera
Three full stories relating to summer.

1-800-SUMMER (Flipping For You Book 4) by Josie Riviera
This book starts out with Belle and she's in a foul mood because she has to relocate along with her business of horse lessons.
She teaches many children who are in dire need.
On the way to one of the horse lessons she notices a man at a balcony who is crying and she wants to help him but the traffic has freed up.
Megan, one of her students brings her father along and he was the man on the balcony. He is terrified of animals but the lessons are helping Megan.
When he hears they are to end he jumps at the change to help renovate her apartment and barn area so she can continue giving Megan lessons.
The rent is cheap and she can also afford the stable for their horse and her own. She relocates and he accompanies Megan often, but then there are other times He's gone for so long that she doesn't hear from him.
They start to get close to one another but when he leaves for work she has to call it off.
You wonder if they can continue with a long distance romance or just end it.
Love the treasures I found in this book: Scottish sayings, recipe, beach and horses.
Authors works are listed at the end along with an excerpt.

A Chocolate-Box Summer Breeze by Josie Riviera
Book starts out with s short introduction about the authors works and sign up for newsletter and free gift.
Story start with Emily and she's sitting at the location where she had met Joe from the storm where they were trapped together along with many others as the roads were shut down.
They exchanged information and stayed in contact with one another with calls. They learned a lot about each other and felt a great companionship when together.
When Joe, a truck driver does arrive they share a nice meal that the diner owner has put together. He's rather a match maker. She had lost her spouse a few years earlier and she feels as if she is intruding on her kids lives.
He has a surprise for her and she is agreeable. They are able to drive to a location where she's never been, a rather run down cottage by the sea. She does find faults with it but it will do. She loves the location and scenery and just doing things they want to do, no pressure.
Most important is she gets her own room, no pressure! Love the things they do while together but when he drops her off it's a good bye as he feels others see him as chasing after her and her money.
It's a wonder if they will ever get back together with one another after the misunderstanding.
Love that the couple is older and is in the same age groups as myself. Love hearing of the music and seashore.
Story ends with a note from the author and a recipe. Acknowledgements and listing of all the author's other works are listed.

...
A Summer to Cherish by Josie Riviera
Book starts out with praise from others. Each chapter starts out with a quote from a famous person.
Story starts with Ashley and she lives in South Carolina. Love that she's a gardener and working with her hands.
She also teaches handicapped children.  The man in the story is David. He's an artist and he's going blind but he tries to make things work, just a bit different.
He donated a lot of his paintings to others and so many have never been shown in a gallery. Love hearing about his eye condition.
He has to end it with her after spending days together doing fun things outside. She tries to get him to bring God into his life again.
She's not been honest with him and hides much and you wonder if they will ever get back together again.
Love hearing of the sign language and how others are able to deal with their disabilities.
Bonus recipe included at the end.  Notes from the author are included at the end also.
Other works are listed at the end along with  an excerpt.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Unto These Hills by Emily Sue Harvey
This story follows Sunny when she was just a girl, young teen til she discovers boys in high school.
Her mother had run away from the kids and husband to be with another man and kids were then left with grandmother.
Sunny's other friends are going through trauma also, one was raped by a relative and she had the baby, dropped out of school at 15, another has been molested by a relatvie, etc.
Hard book for me to continue reading as the kids arrive back with the grandmother as she feels she can raise them better then father who's working a lot to support them.
Because of things her mother did others think she's just like her, wild and free and take it upon themselves to help themselves to her.
Glad she finds out about her mother and who raped her, etc.  So much abuse from the whole neighborhood, I don't get it...
Emotional, heartbreaking, secrets, abuse... Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse it did.
Received this review copy from The Story Plant and this is my honest opinion.

Terminal Regression by Mallory Hill
Story follows a few who are being sent away. They think their life is not worth living, some have attempted suicide.
On the train she meets Will who was in a class as a younger person. He's sent to the electric plant where he works.
Laura is sent to the farm and does physical work, not very hard, just picking a piece of fruit. She has means to get a vehicle and picks Will up at the end of the day and they live together.
He's been electrocuted and also reprimanded from his boss for things he hadn't done right.
There are other influences and people as their new life goes on.  They didn't die in the tunnel on the train getting there.
She knows she needs to make changes and escape... didn't see the book ending as it did, very happy about it though. Bit out there for me but enjoyed the read.
Received this review copy from The Story Plant and this is my honest opinion.

Skink - No Surrender (Skink #7) by Carl Hiaasen

This is another book by this author I just couldn't get into. I like to read a book that I can learn something new.
Read for OK book club for june 2022.
