Book Review: Final Flight by Eric C. Anderson

Final Flight by Eric C. Anderson

Final Flight by Eric C. Anderson
When I read all the things the author had done I thought to myself, he has totally got a handle on what happened and he paints that picture in this book for us.
So detailed and precise, easy to follow and understand. Remember the flights on the news but never a clear idea what really happened.
Starts with a prologue to get you up to speed about how the airline took off and what happens then.
It lets you understand the players involved by giving you a summary of not only their name, their occupation and how they are involved n what transpires.
The tale is not only easy to follow but delves deeper into the characters lifes and personal things about them-money and cars talk to some of them due to their status in life. Before you know it the time is now 2023.
Really draw my attention into understanding what was on the plane, why and who sabotages it. When I first heard the word Kawasaki I thought of motorcycles myself, different division involved.
Love the glossary at the end of the book also as it defines all the terms used in the book.
Everybody wants to move their product at a low fare with a high outcome.
Fast paced, action, adventure, mysteries, sabotage, travel, technology, mafia from many counties, communist party, aircraft maintenance officer, US special forces soldier all mixed together and you learn of what they did to bring it all down.
Received this review copy from the publicist and this is my honest opinion.

Book Review: Friday's Folly by Hilary Walker

Friday's Folly by Hilary Walker

Friday's Folly by Hilary Walker
Book starts out with a quote and note from the author.
Chapters are listed then the story starts where we find Camille visiting a horse barn and finds a horse she really wants to help.
Story also follow Max and they are able to help one another out with the horses. He also runs the family book shop on the island and it doesn't get much traffic.
Mishaps occur and Camille has to help him out due to his injury. Love the places they take the horses, very descriptive.
Like that they are opposites but they have a lot of common ground as well. The vet-the man in charge usually gets what he wants and he wants to date her. She has her eyes on Max and he conspires with her.
Like that there are other people from the previous books in the series that help out in this one also. Is you've not read them, don't worry you are given enough information about them.
Love the lighthouse and the horses there, had never heard of this particular island but have about other islands in the area.
So much about the horses and how to train them, take care of them and ride them.
Learned so many new things about horses.
Love realistic everyday events that occur, down to earth and some very unpredictable.
Note from the author and bibliography, about the author, acknowledgements, other works by the author and connect with the author are included at the end.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Book Review: The Words of My Father by Mark Nemetz

The Words of My Father by Mark Nemetz

check out a summary from this video from the author
https://youtu.be/o_RbHC3v3sY

The Words of My Father by Mark Nemetz
Love how the author paints a picture for my mind to see with words he uses.
Book starts out with a little boy Joseph is not tired enough to go to sleep. His father Giuseppe does nightly prayers with Joseph and asks what the words mean.
Starting with Our Father is the prayer Giuseppe dissects line by line over the course of nightly prayers before bed, explaining to Joseph in words and things that happen that he can understand.
Examples are amazing to learn about as I was brought up as a Catholic and went to Catholic school from K through 7th grade. During the 60's the nuns just wanted us to memorize the words, they never explained what they meant.
Love learning new things and even the mother has a chance to explain one part of the prayer as well. Love the team effort and questions Joseph asks.
Each phrase/sentence is covered in 3 to 6 pages. Thought Amen meant just 'the end' of the prayer. So glad to understand and follow along as new revelations are shown to me.
Love author's style of writing and how he can tell a story, paint a picture worth a thousand words, can't wait to read more.
Other works from the publishing company are highlighted at the end.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

July 15 Book Review: Holiday Hearts Volume 3 by Josie Riviera

Holiday Hearts Volume 3 by [Josie Riviera]

Holiday Hearts Volume 3 by Josie Riviera
Collecton of three stories by the author.
...
Sweet Peppermint Kisses: A Sweet and Wholesome Holiday Romance
Chiara Johnson is driving to her new employment-a woman who has suffered some injuries from a horse fall.
The horse escaped from the fence area and ran out into the street and the boys in the car were injured and she stopped to help them out. She's late for her interview so the local cop escorts her to explain why she's so late..
Gertrude is the woman healing from her injuries and her brother Vance is the one in charge. He is writing an app about dating-she's gotten burned once from using one in the past. He takes a liking to her and he's allowed her to dress up the place with holiday decorations.
Love the idea of the book club-and there's only 2! Love hearing how they recycle items around the house.
She is also physically attracted to him and he wants her to bring her younger sister to help them celebrate the holidays. The family never celebrated...the grandparents always just maintained the horse farm and house to do anything else.
Misunderstandings and jealousy and her sister is missing-she fears heading to the ice that's not frozen yet... Like hearing how they celebrate with the children, what a treasure.
Love how the book got it's name and also the recipe at the end. Surprise ending.
Note from the author is included about the book. Great short story, can't wait to try the treats!
Recieved this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

A Chocolate-Box Christmas
The Chocolate Box Christmas by Josie Riviera
This short story is about Maise who's relocated from Alaska to CA and she's taken a job being a food/writer reporter.
On this assignment she must judge the chocolate contest at a nearby shelter. She knows many of the contestants as she's been around town.
She is able to meet Ben and she discovers his secret as to why he is there. He also finds out why she doesn't really want to be a judge, especially with anything to do with chocolate.
Fun Christmas read, enjoyed it.
Book ends with a note from the author, recipes, and about the author, other works by the author in series format but all can be read as stand alone.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
...
Holly's Gift by Josie Riviera
This book starts out with a dedication and about the series.
Holly is a Korean born woman who tries to not only fix things but help others.
Holly Kim teaches piano and realizes there's something wrong with one of the students as she's late and has other excuses but she is able to track her down,at a homeless shelter.
She was there to find them, on a hunch, but runs into obstacles as the center is closing due to a deterioration that the electric is not up to code...
They must evacuate everyone. Story at this point follows the decision he has made as he tries to come to grips with it and the beautiful woman that's wandered into his life.
Never read a book where female is from Korea and I like how determined she is, strong and brave all in one as she goes after what she knows needs to happen.
He invites her to the ice rink and would even hold her up and she learns many things about him. Love what the charm bracelet means to her and why.
Love hearing about all the outside winter activities. Like the passages were the Bible is mentioned and quoted and how it fits in with the story.
Love that her friend has left her money for charity, now she has a reason to use it.
Love hearing from both sides as you get the full picture.
Love how she teaches him about herself and love of God. She understands his position but know she will stick true to her faith and maybe he will slide on her side.
Bonus of a Christmas cookie recipe is included, OH YUM!  Dedication and acknowledgments and about the author are also included with nightlights of her other works.
Excerpt is also included of another holiday book.  Knowing some things about the author I love how they are brought out in this book.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Jul 14 Book Review: A Walk Along the Beach by Debbie Macomber

A Walk Along the Beach by Debbie Macomber

A Walk Along the Beach by Debbie Macomber
Love the dedication to a fellow author and how hard it must have been to take a whole year off from writing.
This book restarts where the author left off. Willia is a baker and lives with her sister Harper who has just finished going through chemo for leukemia and goes through testings every 6 months.
Sean shows up in town and he's a professional photographer. Love the parts of this work and where it leads him as I recall seeing the building murals in WA.  He travels a lot overseas and when he returns once he has developed typhoid.
WIllia had taken care of him til he contacts his parents and he's on the mend. Her brother has proposed to Chantelle and they are to be married, women have been fitted for dresses the bride will design for them all. This sounds so cool!
During his recovery they are able to discuss his past life in baseball and she recalls the scene he had gotten injured.
Very emotional and sad book but things keep them both going.  Very descriptive details going through cancer treatments.
Received this review copy from Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Story starts out with dedication  and other works by the author.
1875 in London and a newborn little girl is being dropped off at a workhouse as she knows she can not even take care of her herself.

The women who took her in hurries to her sisters and given them the child. As long as there is no other child in the house she is adored by both husband and wife.
When they have Daisy, Holly is forgotten about, to the point where the wife turns her out of her room to make a playroom for the youngest and puts Holly in with the maids.
So many bad things happen to her but she's strong enough to understand them as she drops a plate of glasses she is serving at Christmas and the wife throws her out of the house.
Holly just wants to die but a man finds her on the London Bridge and delivers her to the dressmaker's shop who takes her in, teaches her the trade and lives with her.

Book Review: L.A.'s Last Street Cop: Surviving Hollywood Freaks, the Aryan Brotherhood, and the L.A.P.D.'s Homicidal Vendetta Against Me by Al Moreno

L.A.'s Last Street Cop by Al Moreno

L.A.'s Last Street Cop: Surviving Hollywood Freaks, the Aryan Brotherhood, and the L.A.P.D.'s Homicidal Vendetta Against Me by Al Moreno
Summary and dedication and acknowledgements and then table of contents start this book.
Reason I wanted to read this book is because it's about cops and my dad was one and with all turmoil today I want to support them.
Story starts out with Moreno and he's out of the military and on the police force having finished up with the academy.
He journeys to many new places while on patrol with others and observes how things are done, depending on who you are with.
Rules are a bit different for them all.  Very detailed descriptions of the places and scenes they come upon.
Enjoy listening to the inner workings especially from this cops background of where he grew up. He knows how to outsmart the bad guys, as he was part of a gang at one time.
Very productive the means he uses. Like code names and numbers that go with the territory and felt like I was given special permission to know them.
Appendixes are included and index at the very end.
Received this review copy from Book Marketer via the author and this is my honest opinion.
