jaunts around town, wrap around sweater, other projects

started out at the dollar store and no yarn there.
then onto walmart and there is no more fabric but one quarter of an aisle that has homespun yarn, needles, crochet cotton and not much more. (very disappointing that they took this and other depts out to make room for more food turning this into a super walmart.) typical how just like walmart to put all other local stores out of business and then remove what got them there.

now i am forced to 95% order online - thank you walmart.


one more time with the wrap around sweater.

also not shown here i did pockets that i can sew into the seams (one for each side) a bit different shape than the first wrap around sweaer.

two fronts of the sweater. thought what i'd do this time is instead of making the sleeves i would sew shoulder and side seams (to a point) where then i can pick up the 85 ss and work sleeve downward with decreases the reverse of the original upward increasing rows.




left a message on a free recycle in my local area and my mom in law went to pick up this bag of yarn in june for me, as it's just a block from where she lives. i just now got the yarn as my MIL fell and broke her shoulder and went through multiple surgeries and stays at a local center where she had rehab. she's now back home and on the mend faster. hope to be able to reteach her how to knit and give her afew more tips with her crocheting.



my grandson loves hats, wears them around the house all day long so i thought i'd make him one where the tassles stick out at the top edges.

did research on the net and got a copy of the lengend of the sand dollar. it's a very religious symbol but i won't bore you with it here.

ive had to modify the pattern i originally got in crochet digest. i wonder if there were any corrections to the pattern from the book.

also tried the peaches and cream afghan but i didn't care how they made the cable you chain 3 sts and then work 3dc in that spot, then on way back you work the regular sc in back of the stitches.

tried also the carnival afghan and i can make cluseters that look like popcorn stitches so i got bored with that one and ripped it out.

ended up making some booties for the hospital.

got a bunch of crochetted seashells done this past week.

new project

we store our plastic bottles in the house til the bag is filled, then we move them outside in the shed to the recycling box.

as we have no more plastic bags in the house, we dont shop often at regular stores that give them out, i figured i'd best make a stretchable bag that can be washed and dried and hole the bottles and cans. first is a picture of it hanging (sideways view) from the chair outside.

book: The Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs, found this book on tape online for free. so far it's really good.

ongoing projects: crochet contest, hospital charity booties, more patterns to check out, another prayer shawl (maybe using one of the new stitches) a cockatoo bird to put on an afghan: note fluffly yarn to bottom right and feathery type yarn that will go on top. bird shape itself is to left of all that.

ok get ready for the novel, it's been SO long so i've updated the site.

Jaunt around town: Mom came to the mainland on Wednesday and we went to drop off things I had made at senior center for their craft sale in December. We found out that they did not want them, nor do they want us to make anything more for them, nor can we take yarn due to not making items for them any longer. What a major disappointment, now what do I do with afghans, shawls, covered hanger and kitchen things.

TOOLS
I keep a lot of my knitting tools in this loose leaf binder.

First the needle guides, they tell me exactly which US/English needles I'm using.

There are many envelope clear plastic sections, one for each size needle that i've marked with black marker in bottom right hand corner.

The Land line method

shown here with white yarn threaded through each stitch, but continue knitting along incase you have to revert back you won't lose any stitches. This is the black knitting tote bag someone ordered recently.

Idiot cord used for the tote bag shoulder length straps. I'm using my size 14 needles, these needles should be screwed into a cable needle but i just wanted to make the cord so i need the real short needles only. To make the cord, co 3 sts, * k 3 sts, push sts to other end of the needle and k3, rep from *, you are getting yarn from behind the sts on the needle and it will be pulled together to form a braided appearance.

the IF afghan in background it's an order i recently got. 3 skeins of yarn from hospital for booties. Also Joanne dropped off bags of yarn for Navy relief afghans also yesterday. That and an order for 2 afghans will keep me busy while completing Gregs sweater. No way can I have it done for our anniversary but I did manage to make his favorite oatmeal raisin cookies.
