Blackberry Pie Murder by Joanne Fluke
Love the Hannah Swensen series and all the characters involved in this family saga tale.
The three sisters, Hannah, Andrea and Michelle are wondering why their mother, Delores won't pick a color for the theme for her wedding to Doc.  When she decides she changes her mind a week later.
Hannah heads to the car shop to pick up Lisa, her baker in The Cookie Jar and with the storm ends up running into a man and killing him.
She is in jail and with her notes and others helping to even figure out who the man is, there are many clues as they all gather with what they've seen. With lots of food recipes this is always a good story.
Lots of new things happen that are described, places where I never thought we'd see Hannah involved in....
Most of all I enjoy watching how she creates a new cookie-this is something I do yearly now as well. The freedom to play with food, flavors, textures, etc.
Excerpts from her next thriller series book, Dead Giveaway are included at the end.
This book has a bit of romance, mystery, baking, travel and new experiences.

Parks for the People: The Life of Frederick Law Olmsted by Julie Dunlap
Story is about Frederick as he grows up in cities and loves the country and plants.
He is in a school where he stays til the summer months and he is so glad to get outside. His father then sets him up with a designer.
He had many other jobs: a year at sea, farming at the Getty estate, then his father gave him money to buy a farm.
Can't wait to visit a park that he designed that is within driving distance. Know we will be amazed at his knowledge through the gardens.

 Flash by Jayne Ann Krentz
Olivia is now running her uncle's lighting business, Glow since he's passed away. She learns that he had a loan where the one financing the business was now holding 51% of the stock in the company but she'd still be in charge of the day to day.
Jasper Sloan had used his personal money to help his friend out because he believed in him and his concepts.
Olivia runs her own lighting company, Light Fantastic and many of the relatives also work in the family business. Problem is a relative is being blackmailed and it involves them all, their reputation and they combine forces to combat the culprit.
They do share a lot of time together with strategies.  He is one to collect all the information he can and then form opinions. He tells Olivia of him raising the two boys and how he read how to do it. She shares her divorce details with him and how she now has her late husband's art which is worth a fortune.
He realizes somebody has been in his house also as he notices a pen is out of place...
Jasper and Olivia combine forces to solve who is doing the blackmailing and who is after them and their treasures...
There is much action and accidents that killed and there are other romances with others than the main characters but they are all entwined.

The Mine by John A. Heldt
Mines have always fascinated me and I have followed news reports of mine mishaps and the trapped parents wishes for their kids to move away from the area because the business is so hard of a life-they want better for their children.
Story starts out with Joel Smith and his friend Adam Levy   as they eat at The Canary while on a college break til graduation in Seattle. They have been exploring the national parks and other attractions. They learn of six planets and the sun and moon aligning and in the past it has caused calamities.
Construction on the road leads them to a road where a mine is located that was closed over 100 years ago. They explore as Joel is a geologist major. Something goes wrong and now Joel is in 1941 and Adam is nowhere to be found....
He has gone back in time and he tries to figure out what to do and hopes he makes the right decisions as time goes on from 1940's.  Loved hearing all the things that happened, in the right order and what he did to survive. When the planets line up again he has more difficult decisions to make-stay in 1941 or try to get back to 2000.
Love very detailed descriptive words of the locale, I can just picture it in my mind.
Fascinating read because of the time frame, travel and betting on the future.
Really a weird situation when he meets up with others...
