Book Review: Riding Out the Rift: When Horses Touch a Woman's Heart by Hilary Walker

Riding Out the Rift: When Horses Touch a Woman's Heart by Hilary Walker
This book starts out  with table of contents, introduction and then the story.
This book follows many people but you are brought up to date on their latest.
What I really appreciate hearing about are the horses and just how in tune they are of our problems.
Love learning all I can about them as I'm not that familiar with their habits, antics and how to take care of them.
In this story Laura is pregnant and she's given up so much, she feels at times to where she is today.
Also follows Jack and his life as the horse whisperer and his son Joe who helps them on the horse ranch along with class work.
Follows the priests involved in not only helping others but bringing others to the ranch for therapy that the horses can give.
Love the different ages in this one and the problems that arise with each of them: jealousy from a girl, having your life cursed and health issues.
Had to read this in one sitting, while folding laundry, because I wanted to hear about them all and not let anything get between me and the end of the story.
Ends with about the author, acknowledgements and the authors works and how to connect with her.
Another KEEPER!
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Book Review: Dead at Third

Dead at Third (Henry Walsh Private Investigator Series Book 1) Gregory Payette
Saw this advertised as free for the first in the series, thought I'd give it a try. Like this author and how he writes, tells the story from all angles.
When a boy comes up dead and another baseball player is arrested it's up to Henry and his partner Alex to find out who really killed the boy.
They uncover so many hidden secrets from years ago and how they are all playing a part in this story.
Lots of people but it's easy to keep them straight. Love how laid back Henry is when he has a gun pointed at him and he doesn't even have a weapon at all. Enjoy the Mafia type scenes that take place.
Can't wait to read more from this author.

Book Review: B09962GRXG

Dollar Brides by Anne Greene
Loved to learn about what a dollar bride is, never heard that phrase before.
1899  Love how this story starts, In Newport, RI on the beach and she's got 3 dogs to keep her company as they go frolicking in the ocean water.
Red flag was up but 15 minutes early which means all women keep away. The men with their birthday suits will have the ocean to themselves.
Ms. Astor runs into a different problem. A man in his swimming trunks coming out of the water while they both end up tangled with the leashes.
Today it's a local beach for us and no flags.  They meet at other events and she gets upset and refuses to see him further.
They are introduced officially and love the idea of the ride and picnic, high society style.
What Mrs. Vanderbilt wants, she gets, even sending her daughter to England to wed and get a title along with her dowry while she learns others have divorced the forced marriages.
She also tries her hand in match making in Newport.
Like how it ends, didn't see it happening like that. Love learning all the new phrases and about that time in our history.
Discussion questions are listed at the end along with the authors note and her works.
Have visited some of the cottages along Ocean Avenue and they are breathtaking.

Book Review: Soccer Fitness: a step by step guide on speed, endurance, flexibility and strength by Dylan Joseph

Soccer Fitness: a step by step guide on speed, endurance, flexibility and strength by Dylan Joseph
Offer of free printout of the most important things in this book.
Table of contents is included with a chapter on the most aspects of fitness when it comes to soccer training.
Dedication page and preface about the books in the series.
This book  concentrates on speed and endurance, weight training and stretching and flexibility.
Although I am not a soccer player nor have kids in that area I find the fitness material very useful. I am a gardener where I need to stretch to achieve tending to the garden several times a week.
Love the bold print of the most import facts of the book where the rest of the paragraphs explain about the concept.
Love that the author has taken the time to go over other important things in ones life, BMI and exactly how to do resistance training. Being that I am now over 65 my doctor is concerned about the bone density so she has me doing weight training exercises.
This book explains to me how to do them correctly and which ones I should be doing for which muscles.
Some of the phrases used I am not familiar with but there is a glossary of terms at the end of the book to help explain it in further detail.
Illustrations along the way also show how to do some things to be sure you are doing them properly.
Love the examples of a day of inactive and more active days by the author and how he handles the intake of food to maintain his weight.
Love reference you can find online to determine your own BMI using other means of measurement to get a truer calculation.
Charts included on weight training off season and in season.
So detailed with what exercises to do X times a week and how many sets.
Never realized there are so many ways of stretching and what they mean.
Love the positivity chants in routine stretches, so cool!
Injuries and how to tend to them and recover from them, very helpful and useful information here!
Afterword and about the author are included at the end along with free offer of printout.
Glossary of terms is attached also. One of the books that will be on my table for many months to come as I glance through it from time to time during gardening season as I limber up before heading out.
Received a review copy from the author and htis is my honest opinion.

Book Review: Supreme Betrayal (A Zachary Blake Legal Thriller Book 6) by Mark M. Bello

Supreme Betrayal (A Zachary Blake Legal Thriller Book 6) by Mark M. Bello
What I like about this book are the way the facts are laid out in the storyline of what happened.
A brutal attack when she was only 16 Hayley attended a party with her friends.  She never forgets but continues on with her life.
Gets educated and becomes a leading doctor in sex abuse of women and marries her husband and has children.
Years later the culprit is up for nomination for Supreme Court and she writes to a few key people to get the case that was washed away brought to the public.
She knows it will be a tough battle. Love how the investigators go after not only the policemen that were involved but others that attended the party. They go the distance to provide the full facts of the original case.
Oliver is the man in question and he partied when he was in college. He and Jared's parents left them alone a lot as they traveled the world. They always got what they wanted, money was no problem.
Some people can be paid off....as they bring the case forward some testifying are being killed and you wonder who will remain to testify at all.
Like that it also is similar to update events of today, the last man appointed in the real world and how he was put through hearings for days.
Love action and details that are so descriptive of the events and scenes. Hope I find more of this author's works to read. Title leads you to wonder what's inside...
Received this book from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

Balsam tree is way up high on the mountains that they ride up the hills to find it.
Summer comes and that year her father leaves to fight the war. Her mother tends the garden for food and Ruthie prays for her father to come home for Christmas.
A letter from him states he will be home for Christmas.  Others are practicing the Christmas play and she will be the angel as her father will give the village a tree.
Ruthie and her mom made their way up the hill during the night to get the tree.
Love hearing the songs they sing along the way. Mother uses her wedding dress to make big wide sleeves so Ruthie will be a true angel.

Describes their daily lifes there and how she makes her bed. Love the nightly ritual of don't let the bed bugs bite.
Public gardens I had never seen as my eyes were dilated and I know the swan boats are there.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Marthasville by Benji Carr
Story is a letter an older man is writing to his younger girlfriend as he has to let her go.
His wife is upset but she loves taking care of him and hopes to for as ever long as he's around.
Memories of his time spent with the girlfriend have brought smiles to his face and a reason to get up every day.
This totally reminds me of my mother in law who went through dementia and she'd tell us she had just come back from the beach or an outing with other women and she drove them.
She had no car so we know she went nowhere but glad she had happy moments in her life.
Not sure what his mental health but glad he was happy if only for a bit.
Other works by the author are not only summarized at the end, some have sample chapters.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

July 20 Book Review: The Parisian Spy by Hannah Byron

The Parisian Spy by Hannah Byron
Note from the author and list of chapters starts this book.
Love this story. It starts out in Boston, a close by city to me and 1938.
Radcliffe college. Oceanne (love this name) is studying near her friend Eliz and is worried she won't pass the final exam.
She wants to be a doctor and is so close to finishing. She meets up with her friend Martin and he tells her of the grade she received on her test....
she come up with a solution and it will go with her throughout her life. Love the parts where she meets others who are related to friends of her and her grandfather.
During the war she stays at her grandfathers in Paris and falls in love. When JJ is missing she decides to pick up where he left off in helping the French from the Germans.
She meets many along her route and over the years. She has to put her own life in harms way in order to find the information she wants
As a doctor a lot of doors open for her and she learns the truth about JJ. Love references to the French songs, some I learned when in Catholic school as a young girl.
Tragedy, pain, war, love, romance and patriotism all play a part in this book. Glad it was so indepth and not just a short story.
Love how the story wraps up at the very end.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

July 16 Book Review: Money Game: A Wealth Manifestation Guide. Level Up Your Mindset Step-By-Step & Create An Abundant Life by Daniel Mangena

Money Game: A Wealth Manifestation Guide. Level Up Your Mindset Step-By-Step & Create An Abundant Life by Daniel Mangena
Enjoyed this book because of all the links to resources and the things I learned. You can use the techniques discussed here to do everything in your life.
Like the journaling so you can see how you feel when you achieve good things.
I do quite a bit of couponing and have in the past taken further steps. I know am intrigued into survey sites where I make money by doing tasks, playing games, etc enough that it pays for our $1k to Seattle every year.
Also get points for free nights at hotels, museums, etc We come home with no bills to pay.
You basically start out small and keep at it. I can see myself using a lot of the other concepts in the book to achieve better production from the work I do.
I have to really focus and not be doing 10 things at once.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

July 16 Book Spotlight: I Don't Want to Turn 3 by Gramps Jeffrey

SYNOPSIS

AUTHOR BIO

Gramps Jeffrey has 4 kids and 6 grandchildren and looks at how the kids are growing up as a baby boomer trying to understand how the world has evolved since he was 3 years old. As the author of the acclaimed business book "The Secrets of Retailing...How to Beat Walmart" and a contributor to The Huffington Post of over 100 articles on how to help the nonprofit world and also help grow small businesses, Gramps' commentary is quite timely in the challenging world we live in. --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

MY REVIEW

I Don't Want to Turn 3 by Gramps Jeffrey
What I like about this story is that it's so realistic, funny at times and leaves you feeling good.
Children's colorful story about a little child who likes being 2 and knows the things he can do and not get punished.
He has many relatives around his age and he starts collecting their favorite toys that he hides...
I love that I can actually see and enlarge the words on the pages and can be enlarged.
When the toys are all found the dad steps in and I love how this ends. Love charity and helping others less fortunate.
The kids will now grow up and continue this practice themselves and teach their children the same things.
Like why the author wrote this and the outcome she wanted from the adults involved.
There's a saying when I grew up, mom would say 'wait til you have kids
of your own'  SO true!
Received a review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Book Review: International spy and midnight intruder (the mystery series worldwide adventures Book 1 by Paul Moxham

International spy and midnight intruder (the mystery series worldwide adventures Book 1 by Paul Moxham
Two books in this collection.
..
International spy
This story we find the 3 siblings along with Will their friend in a helicopter flying back to the place in Aldonia where the movie is being filmed.
Their friends dad is starring in it and they invited them all along.
The helicopter crashes and only the pilot  had a problem with his leg. The two boys head to a cabin that was seen from overhead to get help.
Crazy that they run into Max and his female friend Heidi as they head back to the crash scene.
Zonto and others are after Heidi for knowledge she has as they drag the occupants from the crash to a hideout.
This story is filled with action, adventure, new words for me, new location and some awesome cool tools and snow mobiles.
Parachutes are put to very good use and I love hearirng about the caves and how they are able to stay ahead of the bad guys.
You may wonder for how long that lasts...
..
Midnight Intruder
Will and his dad have invited the kids along to Scotland. Mr. Tweedy had bought a painting and while bringing it home the frame got broken so while repairing it he discovered another painting underneath worth millions.
The group spend the night there and girls get up to get a drink of water and listen to a commotion in the library-where they painting was.
They are taken and yell to alert the others. Amy is very aware of her surroundings, sounds and getting license plate of the van.
As she is returned back to them with a note of ransom she's told to walk to the next town with the painting and meet at a location. She never arrives there nor do the police see her on the road.
So much action, adventure, quick thinking skills, and working out problems together.
Like these shorter stories and like longer ones also.

July 6 Book Review: A Cup of Silver Linings by Karen Hawkins

A Cup of Silver Linings by Karen Hawkins
This book starts out with a dedication page. Story starts with Ellen, the grandmother.
She has returned to Dove Pond and is attending her daughter's funeral. She is there to tend to the care of her granddaughter Kristen, a high school teen. Her mother had run away when she was a teen and had Kristen but never returned...she's now dead, Julie.
Each chapter follows Ellen, Ava who runs the tea room and her sister Sarah-there are many other Dove Sisters that make brief appearances in this story.
Kristen also gets her chapters and I like how we get to hear her point of view. She knows her whole world is about to be turned upside down, she will be forced to go live with her grandmother in another town.
She has two very close friends that have her back. She figures the only way to be able to stay is to find her real father. She gives Ellen some tea before bed and she hopes to search the house for more clues from her mother as to who her father is.
They search through year books and come up with three clues as to who it could be. Ava is having her own problems with her sister and a big secret that comes to light.
She never meant for her tea concoctions to turn out as they did. Lots of Magic.
Love that there are many different generations of people involved and how they are all connected, over time you will learn all about them. Book excerpt from next in the series, also Q&A is included for discussion questions.
Received this  review copy from Gallery Books via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

July 7 Book Review: Inspired by the Holy Ghost by Aimee Nikolov This book starts out with a list of the chapters where each title of the song along with the artists name is listed. There are 47 chapters in total. The artists names themselves intrigued me because I have listened to many of the artists songs, just not these songs. I'll have to go listen now as they fascinate me, the words how they rhyme and bring the message home. A preface is included which talks mostly about how this book came about, the origins. The songs are also denoted at the apple sit URL along with other locations. Very touching, meaningful, emotional happy moments, something to look forward to during the times of the pandemic. Love Cardigan the best, by Taylor Swift. Received this review copy from the publicist and this is my honest opinion.

Book Review: Bride-in-Waiting (Short and Sweet Romance Read) by Gita V. Reddy

Bride-in-Waiting (Short and Sweet Romance Read) by Gita V. Reddy
Really enjoyed this story because it opened my eyes to others traditions for wedding ceremony and what is expected with traditions.
Family is very involved in planning of the wedding.  Starts out at present where she runs into her half wed husband. the ceremony did not complete.
We learn the details from 9 years ago also.  Lots of planning is quickly done but things happen at the event that halt the ceremony.
We learn he has gone to USA to get an MBA and when he returns he can't find her.  She's educated now also, at a high level and they do run into one another.
Love the letters, how special is all that! You wonder if they can reunite or just remain friends after all this time....
X story!

Book Review: Check In (Bobbins Sisters Series Book 2) Ky Debra Parmley

Check In (Bobbins Sisters Series Book 2) Ky Debra Parmley
What I like about this from the very start is how they meet and keep the relationship casual.
He checks in with her every day to make sure she's gotten to where she is supposed to be as her stalkers might be out there soon again...
She is trained to watch for signs and when the bank is held up she memorizes a lot of the smaller details to help capture the bad guys.
Very scary at times but he is there to make her feel secure. She has no idea about his moods or service but he has some lasting effects...
Wonder if he can be around to save her 24/7 cuz it just might come to that....

Book Review: Montana Delta Rescue: Brotherhood Protectors World by Debra Parmley

Montana Delta Rescue: Brotherhood Protectors World by Debra Parmley
Chapters are listed along with listing of other works by the author.

This story follows Ricky, ROCK Trumbull and the team he serves with are ready to complete the mission.
After we get an overview of the incidents during that mission we are brought to the headquarters where he rehabs and gets Hercules back.
Love hearing the details of everything related.
Story is also following Marilyn who's realized Tony, the mob boss is not really the guy she thought he was. She was hoping to surprise him with a new hair coloring when she's surprised and take photos.
After she keeps her cool and auditions for a movie part the next day. She was able to contact her girlfriend and plans to head to their headquarters for help.
She was smart, in some regards about not keeping the photos with her. Love the scenes as she's rescued and falls right in with Sadie and the men at headquarters who are a brotherhood protection agency.
Returning back to headquarters the car gets a flat tire and she is being hunted as Tony's car stops...
She had many trackers on her, phone, car, etc so he knew where she was. She had evaded them til the flat tire.
Love hearing how the brotherhood men use signals and other means to come to her aid. Love how it all works out, never thought others would be after the mob boss and the goonies with him.
Love the story and it's told in just the right amount of pages. Some authors take up to 500 pages. This is so detailed and descriptive, love it, can't wait for the next one.
Samples from author's other works are included at the end. About the author is included, about the brotherhood protectors series and about Elle James.
