Every Summer

Every Summer (The Seaside Saga #10) by Joanne DeMaio
Have read every book since the first one and feel as if this groups of friends and family are my next door neighbors.
A story of the beach area and the people in it and what they go through over the course of a week.
This one I feel very emotional about because of the turmoil for so many in the story that I know will get resolved because
1. the sea air will cure what ails you
2. friends don't leave others alone-they meddle to get things fixed.
Learned a few new things this book also, which is a major plus for me when reading.
Love the location as the water, waters, smells, colors are just so described you can see them in your own eyes and mind as if you are the one sitting on the drift line.
Love that Maris is continuing through with the novel of Neil's journals and that Shane although not welcome may get the chance to talk to his brother after 15 years.
Love that they go back in time-I didn't realize a lot of things as they are still coming out in talks with others. I'ts a 'ah ha' moment for me as I hear about them for the first time.
New romances have a spark and light up.
Not sure if I am happy about them or sad and both at times. Felt I had tears in my eyes a lot of this story, it was very touching as some of the events mimic parts of my life.
Hated to see it end and know there is another to follow-can't wait to read that one.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

The Heirloom Garden by Viola Shipman
Book starts with authors praise from other works.
Starts out with Iris and she has a victory garden as to so many during the war. It was the only way to get food, rest had to go to the soldier fighting the war.
There is so much you will walk away with after reading this book. Iris raised the victory garden for the town and needs to get over her anxiety and has no resting place for her spouse, Abby needs encouragement to be strong to do the things she needs to do,
Cory needs to get over his anxiety after returning from the war.
Parts that got to me where the monthly visits to the garden as I have so many of the same flowers-what a beautiful year of flowers.
2000's
Abby married to Cory, back from the war live in MI and have Lily
Cory is damaged and she can't trust him to take care of girl. Abby works at paint for boat place.
Story goes back to 1940's
Iris and she lost her spouse Jonathan, then Mary to the war. She recalls her dad tending to vegetable garden while her mom tended to flowers.
She went to college for botany and knows all about flowers. She still makes Mary a cake and brings it to where the trillium grow to remind her of when she was born.
I have a handful of the ones mentioned in the book and can't imagine how stunning the garden would look if I had the same flowers growing.
Love the part about how the flowers tell a story as do mine, especially where they came from
Current date and we find Iris in her own cottage with high fence with her flowers and greenhouse. She also owns the house next door
where Cory and Abby and their little girl Iris live.
Like hearing how she hybridizes, love cross planting and how to use the nylons.
Ends with acknowledgements and discussion questions.
A book to treasure! A KEEPER!
Received this review copy from HARLEQUIN – Trade Publishing (U.S. & Canada)

Precarious Summer: Clean Romance and Mystery (Northern Shore Intrigue Book 1) by [Cote, Lyn]

Precarious Summer: Clean Romance and Mystery (Northern Shore Intrigue Book 1) by Lyn Cote
Book starts with notes of Bible and where to find the phrases used and also a dedication.
Have read other books from this Harlequin series and they put me out of my comfort zone.
What I like just from the start is the location, praying/religion, attraction/romance, fire investigations, bakery and family from all different age groups and their problems.
Lots of twists and turns and clues are given along the way as to just who is causing the fires.
Sheriff Carter is on the trail and also on the bakery owner and her daughter radar.
Love how there are many around to help her with your young child and at the shop. Love how something is mending the breaks in her immediate family.
Carter had his own background of being a bad boy, fire starting etc so he knows what to look for and who to stand up for-believing in them.
Audra and Carter don't realize who it is but think it's themselves the person is after Audra has been getting phone calls at work, blackmailing ones if he's hearing things and seeing things right.
Carter thinks it's others in town that want him out of the position he has as sheriff.
Despite the scary parts of the fires and those that are impacted I never realized who was at fault for all of it.
Love how each one effected comes to terms with their past and Audra has to also....
Easy to keep track of the handful of characters in this story. Can't wait to read more of this series!
Ends with excerpt from another story.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Calisthenics for Beginners by Matt Schifferle
Calisthenics for Beginners by Matt Schifferle
Book starts with a table of contents and then introduction materials.
I like this book right from the start because being confined to homelife now I do have an elliptical with encumber bike but this is more body work and will help improve my balance as i age.
Each section is color coded and targeting different muscle areas.
Like that it tells you and shows you on the body what muscles will be worked and where they are located.
Things you will need is also listed and set your goals.
The programs I like the best because there are safety tips along the sides of the book.
Also shows you a body actually doing the exercises and words below tell you how to start, do the exercise and finish the steps.
Love the ones that use no equipment and the ones that resemble yoga.
Love the cool down exercises as well as I'm always forgetting that part.
Do not like that some of the highlighted word sections are a very dull print on a light background-I can hardly see them.
Towards the end of the book the pictures and sketches are no longer available but the words will describe what to do perfectly.
Section for making your own workouts and also keeping a log.

If My Nose Could Talk by Nicole Filippone

Promise me Forever by Debbie Macomber
This story starts out with Joy and she's a physical therapist on private duty. Sloan is in a wheelchair and has lost all purpose to even try to get better.
With the things she does to motivate him it works and she gets him in the pool and even to work with his father and the family business. He still doesn't want to meet with his old friends
because he's changed since they hung out together.  Like the seagull and the part that is similar to Sloans and how it relates to each other.
Sad story when she knows it's time for her to leave...
other works by the author are highlighted at the end and an excerpt from another story is included.

Ranieri Andretti by Parker S. Huntington
Book starts out with other listings of the authors works. Authors note and foreword.
Store starts out with Carina and in high school and she has a best friend, til she doesn't any longer because of something that happens at her father's store.
Ranieri has always been there for her until his brother does something that ends it for him and Carina. It's a family feud where he can't tell her why they had to split up til much later in the book.
I don't like that the book goes to the present, then back 20 years then to the present then back 10 years. Wish I had read it in the order it happened.
Liked the twists and turns and thought they'd be more mafia things occurring.

A Carol for Kent (Song of Suspense #3) by Hallee Bridgeman
Have read the other book sin the series, they can be read as stand alone also.
Am familiar with the characters and we find out more about Carol, a single mother and the childs grandparents love having the little girl visit.
They lied to her and their own son about the child and 8 years later when he came home they were having a birthday party for her. Neither had no idea what had happened.
She was told their son didn't want to have anything to do with her and the child.
As they get to know one another and he Bobby Kent gets over his anger with his parents with the help of others and God, always praying to forgive.
He ends up buying a house next door to her so he'll be able to see her grow up and he's remembering what he saw in Carol back in college.
He is now a country western singer and Carol is an investigative murder lawyer. The town has suffered the loss of over 5 women and the night she realizes her life is in jeopardy she sends Bobby and her daughter and she'll be the bait.
With the storm things don't go as planned. one of the detectives on her case is sent away and the other one wants to molest her. Her friend comes to her rescue but we soon learn she wasn't there to rescue her at all.
Plays like a simple love story but with twists or scary parts as the murderer gets closer to killing her. Other characters from the authors other works also come into play for brief moments.
Love this series because it's out of my comfort zone and I am learning so much by reading them.
Can't wait to read the others in this series and hope they continue.

A Harmony for Steve by Hallee Bridgeman
Have read the other books in this series and I like the action in them with meaning.
This one starts out with Harmony and she's a big song writer/artist and her family is mostly behind her as she sings about God and at a hip rate.
After a show where she was staring with the Devil group she need to decompress after the family meeting about the business.
She heads to her relatives cabin in the woods in Oregon and she meets up with Steve-the man who had crashed into her at the show with his beer.
He's there trying to rehab himself, get off the drugs, booze and devil stuff. They are able to spend some time together and she prays for him and he is recovering but it's taking a lot of time.
Band has no idea where he is...
Story is so realistic with cult and drugs and alcohol it brings on a lot of emotions while reading...
Love how the family and networking comes together in many forms.
Love catching up with the others in the series-you are not left in the dark if you read the books out of order like I did.

Lighthouse Mysteries of the North Atlantic by Robert Cahill
Lighthouse Mysteries of the North Atlantic by Robert Cahill
Have visited many of the lighthouses around our area in the northeast and there are so many more we've yet to visit.
Hope to find out more about the ones no longer functioning in our area and down the coast.
So much information about the lighthouses and how they operated in their days.
What I love about this book is all the things I've learned from even our local lighthouse. Especially excited to read of vikings who built some of them and also of the ones in Nova Scotia as we watch Oak Island and there's treasures there.
Loved hearing of PI light and how the hurricane killed the whole family but
the keeper himself.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

The Berenstain Bears Go Christmas Caroling (Berenstain Bears/Living Lights: A Faith Story) Paperback – October 1, 2019
by Mike Berenstain
This audio book I listened to as the bears are busy decorating, everybody doing what they are capable of.
The bears leave with the local group and the part I like the best is when Honey asks what certain phrases mean in the songs.
She gets answers too!  They travel to many singing along with them.
Songs with no words finish up this book.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Canoeing on the Juniata, 1888

Someone To Love Me by Tory Richards

Someone To Love Me by Tory Richards
This short love story starts out with Charlie and she's crashed her plane in the trees in Alaska.
She spent one night in the plane piled with clothes and the next day adventures out to find help.
Luke heard the crash and goes to find the pilot as he can follow the trial from their footprints in the snow.
He lives in the trees in Alaska and trying to rid himself of memories of his wife, who died when she was young but this woman is appealing to him.
She had been up against a white wolf or the river when he showed up to rescue her. He gave her all warm dry clothes and they went back to his cabin miles from where they were.
He finds her physically arousing her. He has a generator but only keeps it for emergencies. He keeps her warm on the couch in front of the fire while he heads upstairs to his bed.
Steamy sex scenes as they become more than friends. He's fearful she will leave when search plane finds her...He wants to go back to his isolation but doesn't ....
Like story line as we find out more about their past lives.
Emergencies and being found occur and this story has an unexpected ending.

The Low-Cholesterol Cookbook for Two: 100 Perfectly Portioned Recipes for Better Heart Health
When I saw the cover of this book I knew it was one that I really wanted to read because of what it stated on the cover: low cholesterol and it's for two people, portion recipes.  This is just going to be perfect for our family of two.
There is SO much to this book, the details it covers, what a treasure!
The book starts out with the dedication and then a table of contents where the recipes are broken up into different kinds of meals.
The introduction is about low cholesterol cooking for two. Has very colorful photographs at the beginning of each and every chapter.
Intro talks about imporant subjects: your cholesterol and how you can regulate it with diet and exercise and sleep.
There are all kinds of suggestions here even family history and also with charts that states what your cholesterol should be at what age what it should be for HDL as well.
Like that the words you could actually see them without struggling, words and sections are not crunched on the pages.
There's several charts to help along with explanations, foods you should be eating and foods you should not be eating.
Even lists of things you should have in your kitchen.
Each recipe chapter starts with the category name and then it lists the different recipes that are included and the page numbers.
Each recipe starts with a title, prep time and cook time and a brief summary of the dish. There are also little color coded squares to the left that tell you what kind of diet this is suitable for.
Included also are a listing of ingredients and you should be able to substitute for your healthier dietary needs: low-fat, low-sugar and low sodium and fresh vs canned items.
Directions follow and it also has substitutions at the bottom.
There is a listing of some nutrient information per serving: calories, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbs, fiber, sugar and protein.
There are no pictures of the finished items
There are a lot of recipes with wide variety. Like seeing  there are also smoothies recipes with  great combinations of different foods that you never think to put together.
Recipes also for different kinds of meats as well and desserts.
Each recipe starts at the top of a new page. Feature I really like about this book is at the very end there is a section for sauces and dressings and staples.
We actually have a salad every night so we have to be very careful on our toppings/dressings.
I'd like to try some of the ones in here as they look very healthy for us with our dietary needs.
At the very there are measurement conversion chart showing u.s., metric, Fahrenheit and Celsius.
There is also a section on references with many different books are noted so you can get your own copy.
A recipe index is also listed at the very end along with a book index.
I also like the size of the book: it's one that's  9 x 7 and it will lay flat if you put it up on your shelf or into your recipe holder from under a kitchen cabinet.
Also has acknowledgments at the very end along with about the authors with their color photos.
I wish every recipe had a picture.
I like the very healthy things in here and I love that is just for two people.  You don't have to guess or end up with enough leftovers for weeks.
A KEEPER!
I received this review copy from The Callisto Publisher's Club and this is my honest opinion.
