SYNOPSIS:
The story line of this book was created from the pleasure I attained from looking out a large window at my lake property in Wisconsin. Over many years, as I drank my morning coffee or ate my lunch at noon, I observed in wonderment many different kinds of animals and birds interacting with one another.
Nature continued to illustrate other observations to me that I have written about. These observations helped me to create a story line for children not only to enjoy reading but also perhaps could assist them in learning an important life lesson.
If you enjoyed reading about Scooter and Lilly who learned a lesson to never give up, you may also enjoy reading about Harry the Hummingbird and Chucky the Black Squirrel, two other story lines about sharing and bullying!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Patricia A. Thorpe was a resident of Wisconsin for most of her life until she retired from Certegy as a credit card manager in 2003. In 2006, she moved to Mesa, Arizona where she resides today. She returns to Wisconsin where she spends time with her four sons and five grandchildren during the summer months. Patricia recalls buying many children's books when her sons were young children. She felt reading to her children was paramount and bought many children's books to read to them as learning methods. When her sons were going to start school, she found a book that she felt could assist them in learning what they may experience and feel on their first few days of school. Patricia found a book to help her sons learn their ABCs, simple math calculations, the importance of following the Golden Rule and most importantly lessons from Aesop's Fables. During the seven years Patricia lived on Lake Kristine in northern Wisconsin, she found herself looking out of the large window from her dining room. From there she observed many different kinds of birds and animals interacting with one another. The memories of buying children's books for her sons led her to decide to create a children's book with a story line about a hummingbird she lovingly called "Harry." She hopes to create other children's books in the future for young children to enjoy and assist them in learning important life lessons.
MY REVIEW:
The Canada Goslings Lilly and Scooter by Patricia Thorpe
Book starts out with dedication then the story.
Colorful children's story all about Canada goslings. What I love about this book is the words are very easy to read, words are on one side of the page and pictures are on the other side.
Love how the story starts as I am unfamiliar with things dealing with geese.
The geese Maude and Arnold, and how they set up the nest, where it's located and why and their job as parents and their daily chores.
Love how dedicated Maude is with her job as mother, no matter what the weather she is sitting on the eggs, til they hatch.
Then their real work starts, making sure they are safe, are fed and learn how to fly and land.
Never knew they go through a molting season, so cool to learn all this!
Two of the goslings stick together and Lilly keeps encouraging Scooter that yes he can fly and he has to just try.
He does try but he would rather be playing....
Lilly has a one to one talk with him and he gets encouraged by the words she uses and really puts an effort into learning how to fly.
He is so happy he's like all the rest...great lesson he learned: you can accomplish any goal by believing in yourself and trying very hard and never giving up.
The author's other works sound just as good as this one and love hearing how this book came about.
Ends with about the author. Really great educational read for all.
I received this review copy from the publicist and this is my honest opinion.
