Books read March 2021

Stony Point Summer (The Seaside Saga Book 12) by Joanne DeMaio
This book holds a lot of secrets, not just current but from the past.
I didn't realize there was so many missing pieces to the puzzle still.
Happy to catch up with the gang as they go about their business and time off.
Especially like the interactions and for me learning about the ocean stars and driftline in further detail-SO treasured.
Love the new words throughout I learned also. So many very descriptive details of the water and smells, sights and sounds that come to life.
Can't wait to read more about the gang of friends who live and play together and have for many decades.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Trail to Forgiveness by Cheri Swalwell

This story concentrates on Jace and Holly and the help they get to overcome the charges. They have a lot of friends that have their backs.

Love prayer at the meeting, it works. Also other combinations of others the story follows as well. Brings the whole community up to date.

Love prayers and how others get along with one another and how things are at peace, finally.

Love hearing about all the solutions to all the problems in this story. There are also so many fun times. Love Christmas holidays.

Super fun series and can be read as a stand alone.

Journey Back Home (The Redemption of Green Pines Book 2) by Cheri Swalwell

Book tarts out with list of characters and dedication page.

Second book is about Jace and his family, his wife who is a super woman and the children. He spends too much time at church and with youth organization and is often home after midnight.

He also has Holly to help who also runs her own business: come to the table type eating catering establishment but has time to help others in the community.

After a tragic death Holly just wants to help them all as Jace never had a handle on the family side of the house.

ove hearing how Holly helps with all the kids, shopping, just holding the infant, helping others do fun things and their chores. she makes it all so fun and holidays. Love what the different color lights are a symbol for.

Lo many small treasures in this book, look for them yourself.

Others are out to ruin their lives after a sudden death. With faith in God they are able to get over the accusations and you wonder if they will be thrown out of the church and everything they do to help the community.

Was fearful it would end as I thought...although there are a lot of characters it's easy to see how they fit into the puzzle of this story.

Can be read as a stand alone.  Love reading Simone's journals.

Excerpt from the next book in the series is included.

Soccer Nutrition: A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Fuel a Great Performance (Understand Soccer Book 13) by Dylan Joseph
I am just really excited about this book, hope you can tell as I talk so much about it.
Book starts out with offer of a free guide, one page to take with you summarizing the steps to take in this book.
Table of contents and dedication page are included.
Preface where pyramid of soccer positions and goals are labeled.
Introduction talks about more of main points of this book.
Chapters I like the best are those with pictures showing diagrams of pyramids and how different aspects are more important than others and what you should be concentrating on. Had no idea what I eat first is important for the rest of the day for me.
Love chart on age and activity makes a difference when it comes to calorie intake.
Love that this book like the others highlight and bold print sections that are most important to the whole chapter.
Color pictures along the way show what is being discussed.
My plate diagram is how we had been eating now I see the difference with the next pyramid of food types.
Talks about when and how to eat for the player who has a game that day.
Post game even has meal plans, such a cool idea.
Compared to other world soccer players, how they eat and why. I can relate to eating more on days i have chores to do, lots of physical manual labor vs one where I am just doing small chores.
Like comparison of sports drinks vs. water. We'd take water every time. Nutritional label really matters to me and almost 8 years since my spouse had a heart attack it shows you in serving size and what and how much of everything you should be intaking.
All the bad processed parts of food are also discussed and why they are a bad idea.
General nutrition is a really good topic and why you should eat your meals in a certain order. Never thought about it but I like vegetables first as they are usually hot and won't stay warm for very long.
Examples of the authors days: inactive and active and what portions he will intake.
LOVE BMI calculation because the doctor doesn't know if I have body weight or muscle mass.  I actually went to the site and put all the measurements in and I am very happy with the outcome! Thanks for the link!
Love summary at the end of each chapter.
Excellent example of the newer nutritional labels and what they really tell you about what's really inside the food in the package and how much you really should be eating of it-serving size.
Love this book for the experimentation the author tells you to try. Love it myself as we try all the spices and combinations in our pantry. Oils are most helpful when you really don't know exactly what kind of oil to get.
So glad to hear about this book because I love healthy foods. Was interesting to learn what a soccer player would need vs. a regular person.
Offer of free book, about the author and other woks by the author are highlighted at the end.
Author's contact info and website are included.
Glossary where words are explained in detail. Acknowledgements are listed as well.
A KEEPER!, not just for soccer players.

The Happy Hollisters at Lizard Cove (Happy Hollisters, #13) by Jerry West
This story starts out when the family gets a shipment of pineapple from Puerto Rico but none is sure why and who.
They soon learn of the mothers girlhood friend and they come to visit in February during a winter snow storm. Her kids are SO excited to be able to play in the snow.
They are able to go to school with the children and perform a dance for the assembly.
They are soon invited to visit their country during winter vacation.
So much to do and see there, was great to read all about it. Spanish words are easy to understand the Carlos and Maya help the family with them also.
The places where they stop and are actually able to do the things others were doing in the field: sugar cane and pineapple. Love tour of the facility and what each part does.
Finding the treasure so glad the boy from the blind school was with them. My fingers are also very sensitive as I use them for braille.
Love this book, sketches, the new words and experiences learned. Such a treat.

The Happy Hollisters and the Scarecrow Mystery (Happy Hollisters, #14) by Jerry West
Story starts out when the store has been robbed but not broken into. Fear of the new invention was laid to rest when they found it unharmed.
Kids take it out for a trial run on the lake behind their house but rammed the dock when Joey and his friend Will were taunting them...Kids get invited to visit Fox Lake and try the canoe there and will go and spend a few nights camping out.
Love that everybody went and I learned how to blaze a trail. Now I will be looking for marks on the trees where we walk. They are warned many times with many signs to stay away. One is a scarecrow in the middle of the road. Love the expeditions of exploring they all take.
One to help an injured deer and doe comes back for her. Men further up the lake, boy that tells them leave and man called Scarecrow that they bring to the doctor and he spends several nights with them. Love hearing of the stories and like sketches.

The Happy Hollisters and the Ice Carnival Mystery (Happy Hollisters, #16) by Jerry West
This book starts out when the grandparents come to visit on their way to Canada. Dad decides they can go along and try to find the missing Christmas sleigh he had paid for but never received.
Burro goes missing and the parents will come up in a weeks time. Problem is there are a lot of obstacles, traffic on the road, stuck in the ditch, etc.
They get help from a lot of different people. Love when they do arrive in Canada and the festivities have started. Sounds just SO cool to see the colorful things and lights and everything about the hue snowman.
Kids adapt early to the cold weather and find clues to also help find the missing sleigh maker. They also try to find the Eskimo kids motorboat that someone stole. They learn to fish also, I can't imagine fishing in extreme cold temperatures.
Love how the festivities continue and the awards are being given out to different categories of dress/costumes. Princess wins and she agrees to help the kids solve the missing sleigh.
Like the words that are explained as they are used and learning about different customs. Love learning about ice flues. never heard the phrase.
Another great story with sketches.

The Happy Hollisters and the Old Clipper Ship (Happy Hollisters, #12)
This story starts out with a storm and  tree falling on the car parked near their house. the kids were playing in the attic, a movie about clipper ships.
The tale from the Hawaiian man about proving an inheritance has the kids wanting to help him. Love the hand drawn sketches.
They make some smart moves as Tom gets his photos back. Someone is out to steal them from him. They go out of their way to make things difficult for the family in everything they do.
The movie actors show up and after an exciting dinner invite the family to be in the movie about clipper ships in Orient Harbor, MA.
They find a lot of clues and piece things together. Love the sketches and learning all about the sails. we have sailed our remote control boats but only had 2 sails to worry about.
So fascinating to learn so much about their adventures.

The Happy Hollisters and the Mystery of the Totem Faces (Happy Hollisters, #15)by Jerry West
Love this book about when the kids and Uncle Russ and his family all go to Alaska, all but the kids dad, he had to work.
While there they are looking for clues for Ben back home and the mystery of the totem pole. They know exactly how the animals were lined up and hope to find out more.
The old man at the nursing home is a bit of help but he got robbed and so did Pam and her mother. They family meets other Eskimos and I love learning about ehe salmon species and the doll making.
Love hearing of the legends and the gala events. Love all the walking. Felt as if I had arrived on the plane with the family as the details are so descriptive. My parents had been there and it's perfect the way they describe it.
So much time spent chasing down the thief and then the prize they were after. So cool! And to think it was Uncle Russ and his job about finding new characters and drawings for the comic strip he does that led them to this location.
Love all the new things I learned about.

The Happy Hollisters and the Indian Treasure: (Volume 4) by Jerry West
This story starts out with the family helping a local Indian with a missing package. They figure out it went to the wrong street and located it and brought it back to Indy.
He was to set up at a fair the next day, selling hand made Indian souvenirs. We have traveled to Peach, NV and saw the Indians made the jewelry and discover so much more about them.
While the family will be traveling to New Mexico to buy the store there that is closing they go to help Indy at the fair.
So many new experiences for the family. Especially love the time spent with the tribe and the things they learn. Love how they are able to piece together clues to catch some bad guys, find treasures and find the hidden meaning of the turquoise.
Such a fun read. Next one picks up where this one leaves off...

The Happy Hollisters at Sea Gull Beach (Happy Hollisters, #3) by Jerry West
In this story the family are practicing being pirates and even sell tickets to a backyard play raising money for a children's cause.
Their Uncle Ross the sketch drawing cartoonist has invited them to Sea Gull Beach to be in a kite content and also search for the missing pirate ship.
The kids and parents are packing to go...they stop for a night and find a lot of nice people along the way.
Once they arrive in Sea Gull Beach they discover a bully like Joey at home, Homer who's father is the treasure hunter ...
So many cool things they are shown, dig for and discover that lead them to think they could be close to finding the sunken pirate ship.
Love reading about the things the kids find at the beach site. Even the kite flying is an event not to be missed.

The Happy Hollisters on a River Trip by Jerry West
Another episode of the family as the hardware store their dad runs has a contest. the biggest fish caught will win $25 to spend at the store.
The kids also run into Bobby, a local boy but he's staying with a farmer who puts him to work while his mother is out west. She is searching for her grandfather.
The children also catch some fish with a tag on the tail that says ole moe with a number. They ask many around town for a clue as to who ole moe is and they get a lot of clues.
Love the printing procedures at the newspaper, so precise as I was in the publishing business at one time.
The kids are alarmed when they learn Bobby has left the area and they start searching and ask their Uncle Russ for help.
He is able to help them as they all search for the missing boy and also try to find out about ole moe.
What a great story, it even has the bully of the town Joey Brille at his tricks again. Wouldn't be a story without him.
Love all the kids and all they put into finding out all the answers.
Can't wait to read another book.

The Happy Hollisters at Pony Hill Farm (Happy Hollisters, #11) by Jerry West
Story starts out and an auction will take place nearby and the whole family goes. The kids want to get a hobbyhorse for Sue but Joey is around so they are on the case of where he could've hid it as it's not listed as available.
Grandson who's been missing is to earn all proceeds after bills are paid. He shows up and helps the kids with mysteries.
A relative shows up and invites the family to his pony farm where they all go for a few days. The are able to play tricks and stunts at the local show on horses.
One horse talks but he is stolen and they track him down to the swamp area and spend the night. So scary events for just kids. Sketches are drawn that depict what's going on.
Such a great story. Love how the kids donate their earnings to others.
Learn so much from these books.

The Happy Hollisters and the Merry Go 'Round Mystery (Happy Hollisters, #10)
Story starts out when the kids are at school and volunteer for different events at the school fair. the money will be raised for a local nursery/day care. Pam visits to see what they will use the money for.
Boys collect info on where to rent a merry go round and Uncle Ross comes to the rescue. They run into problems as there is a bigger carnival due in town the same weekend.
Pam helps a young mother with her twins as she tries to find monetary help from her family. Love how the whole story comes together.
Many mishaps due to Joey, as usual but he gets his just deserts.

The Happy Hollisters at Circus Island (Happy Hollisters, #8) by Jerry West

Kids have Zip in a dog show and after he wins the kids are told of someone stealing a poodle but the boys and Zip are chasing the man.
He kids lose the chase but the cops show up and follow the clues but Zip is missing, but the poodle has been recovered. The kids were to leave for Florida for their winter vacation for a business trip the dad is taking them all on, but with Zip missing they are holding off doing that.
They do end up flying to Florida with a stopover along the way due to a storm where the kids do more investigating and find more clues as to the dognappers.
When they reach the island they learn a lot more about the circus actually trying stunts themselves and more about the dognappers and their movements. They had kidnapped others trick dogs as well.
They warn others with trick dogs to keep their dogs safe and always by their sides. Love the pretense they pulled on one of the bad guys with a toy doggie. So funny!
All the stories have sketches drawn of scenes, so cool!

The Happy Hollisters and the Secret Fort (Happy Hollisters, #9) by Jerry West
Starts out where the town is making a new highway and there is talk of a hidden long lost fort. The kids track down those who would've been around in that time frame and learn some clues.
One man, Mr. Manger they find looking over their shoulder at the town museum and they find him other places-he is spying on them! Love the talk of the machinery needed to make the roads and how they all work.
Colorful characters that do the manual labor and love how they explain about their machines. My dad had most of them for his business but not the cat.  Interesting to learn all about them.
Kids help other kids who might lose their house cuz of where the road has to go...
Love how it all works out and all about the fort. such hidden gems!
Sketches hand drawn are also excellent works of art. Love how kids are so generous to others even the men while they are working.
Of course the bully is present, getting used to him messing things up.

The Happy Hollisters at Mystery Mountain: (Volume 5) by Jerry West

This story follows the family as they have left the Indians in New Mexico and there is a lead to a friend of the dad and they locate him and go to visit on his ranch.
They soon learn there is a bully in the area and he harms the kids. There are also sheep rustlers and we get to experience the rains. Like learning some Spanish words and what they mean.
The kids have found other kids visiting relatives and they have a book that explains where to find the mystery in the mountain. They are warned to stay away from the mountain areas.
Love the caretaker on the ranch who can predict weather and it's usually ONLY ever good to go fishing. Love learning more about sheep, so cool facts!
Kids love doing that also!  So many dangerous things but it doesn't stop the kids at all. Love the plane rides!

The Mystery of the Escaped Prisoner (The Mystery #10) by Paul Moxham
This story starts out when the kids are on summer break and just playing at the beach when they notice a man that avoids them while they are walking.
Joe seems to think he knows him and he does, after climbing to the top of the castle for a closer look. It's Boris and he's not in prison any longer.
They do reach up with him when he's being chased by One Arm and another man and they aide him into escaping from them. They bring him to their house and all the kids hear why he is not guilty of the crime he was in jail for.
He has to get to his sister Olga as she has proof about the blueprints that were stolen. There are many suspects and the kids and others like Quigley help him to find Olga.
There are other mysteries along the way that include guns and I find it very scary, even for me because they are just kids.
There are plane rides and boat rides, etc. Love hearing of the Scotland land and sights to see and explore.
Things get complicated and they don't know who to trust...
Such a fun exciting book for any age. Can't wait to read more. Think I've now read all of them up to date...

I Like To Be Kind: Children's Book About Kindness for Preschool by Aleks Harrison
Children's colorful rhyming story about being kind. Love all the examples given especially the one where he speaks to his grandparents.
It's been such a hard time the past year and this example to me really shows Max's understanding of being kind to others.
Also love when he notices a boy on the playground just standing around til he's invited to join. SO cool!
Like simple scenes showing so much more. Was happy to see more than a few examples, never expected to see the amount I did.
Can't wait to read more of this author's works.
