ABOUT THE AUTHOR
She:kon greetings from the rez. The struggles being faced on the rez need to be heard. We kids battle things like no internet, thought of as a problem and obstacle rather than as a person, poor drinking water, reduced quality of education, you name it. Just today I told my mom I bet the residential schools didn't seem real to many people. The orange shirts were a trend or something. Until they started finding the bodies of the children buried at the schools. My grandma always told us the children and babies were there. Thousands of them. I mean, really serious stuff. Think about it, a stranger could come into your house, take your kids to these schools and you might never see them again. This effects all of us.
So, I decided to start writing to bring encouragement and to give myself a voice. I have had to fight hard to get the education others get so easily. I know what it is to be pushed aside or to be compared to other students who never experienced a rez life. I believe everyone can learn even the hardest stuff if given a chance and support. STEM is hard stuff, but our greatest breakthroughs will come from our brightest young minds -- and every child matters in everything. I'm finishing up a series from the perspective of Big G, dealing with bias, battles, wins, struggles, rez dogs, rez cops, great friends, and a few teachers who were simply sent from heaven with big hearts, and just a lot from a rez kids' point of view.
Thanks for the support and keep on writing those awesome reviews. Many Nya:wens - thanks. Stay encouraged!
