Story starts out with Avelyn who's about 16 and is so concerned about her mother and the aging disease. She talks to younger brother Killian and he has a plan, head west back to the original city the parents were born to get dust to cure them.
They start out leaving a note and head out early the next morning and run into the kings son who will be traveling with them. Then the adventure starts as they come across some creatures that smell like skunks and tells of how they avoid them and float down the river to get away from them. From there it's more over land and more creature problems. They end up meeting more of their clan but they live in a city. They discuss what they are looking for and they help them. but they also need help from the princess and kings. So many magical things happen, dragons with horns that fly, butterflies that carry others, and so much more.
So very imaginative and the author when getting to a new area details the descriptions with sounds, smells, visual and touch. You can picture it all in your mind.
Love that he got feed back from his own kids who he had read parts to. Bit creepy with bugs and insects and other things they eat but it's a kids book. Appeals to girls as well as boys and grandparents. Would love to read this to my great grandkids. a few chapters a night. Love how it all turns out. Would love to read the prior books in the series also but didn't feel like I missed out on any details of them but reading this one first.
Excellent read!
