Paging Dr. Breakup by Jillian David
This story set in the Yukon where the characters that live there are mostly medical professionals at the local hospital. Deirdre  is the administrator but also lends a hand in crisis as she is also a nurse. Her brother Matt also lives there and they run a lodge where the first book in the series discusses more in detail.  As in this one those who want to buy the land from the whole town to discover the minerals under them are trying hard to turn the town opinions to their own.
Calvin is an ER doctor and he's there til he relocates his parents back to Seattle, after the Breakup Festival. His parents own land there also and after confronting a few of them he contacts the surrounding landowners and they form a committee to look out for their mutual concerns.
Sure it would be nice to have money for the future, but you can't live there anymore. They'd rip the earth up with no town surviving.
Another dilemma is the breakup festival.
Couple decide to get the staff off their backs that they would act as a dating couple. Adult situations and many of them. They decide to breakup before the festival but then things get twisted around.
Medical emergency and she almost loses her ER doctor.... Funny moments at the festival that keep the town having a really good time til those that want to explore the lands show up.
Misunderstanding all around and you wonder if they can get back to what they had.  Lots of medical terms and discussions as it is a hospital.
Received a review copy of this book from Tule Publishing and this is my honest opinion.

The Ultimate Guide to Off-Grid Living by Rowan Holloway
This book I found very useful, so much information about things to consider.
We had thought of buying land in KY and know nothing of what to look out for but know a lot more after reading this book.
Like the ideas for gardening and the different methods of doing so. Not only that but also how to preserve what you grow and how to do different harvests during the year. Love the companion gardening and three sisters. Author has done their homework.
So much on the construction side of what to expect, permits, insurance and building codes in the location.
Love the pictures that are also included.
References at listed at the end for further reading.
Great book!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

My Pursuit of the Axis of Evil is about meetings and adventures with interesting people in Asia and Alaska. I followed the advice of a long-ago traveler named Pythagoras, who admonished us to check your prejudices at every port of entry." As a result, I mostly traveled solo, merged with the locals, and got to see, experience, and understand things that would not have been otherwise possible. Plus, the locals can keep you out of trouble and get you out of trouble if you get into it! In Alaska, I sought out native elders and others in the far corners of this enormous state, street people, and the many interesting and famous people visiting or passing through. And high-level politicians—often at the opposite end of the political and social issues spectrum than me. I learned a lot, made new friends, and often got to see things from a different perspective. Encounters were overwhelmingly positive, and it is these people to whom I dedicate My Pursuit of the Axis of Evil. I commend you for your natural curiosity and desire to go out into the world and see for yourself. Pursuit of the Axis of Evil is a great primer on how to engage and interact with the incredible variety of people we meet on international travel - people that appear on the surface to be very different from you and me. Robert DeLaurentis, Polar and Equitorial Circumnavigator/Citizen of the World. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Bill Cox's favorite directions are west, north, and uphill. He grew up in New Jersey, transited to Michigan for undergrad, medical school, and residency before heading to Alaska in 1984. While backpacking through Europe in 1972, a seed for adventure was planted after Bill took off uphill in the Swiss Alps and met Hans, an old man who spent his summers high up in the Alps, in the shadow of the Jungfrau, where he made cheese. Bill says,\“I walked into a fairy tale.” That seed found fertile ground and sprouted in the Last Frontier known as Alaska—and even more so in the vast continent of Asia beckoning from just across the Pacific. Adventure called with 26 trips overseas which found him wandering across Siberia, Mongolia, India, and the smaller countries of Southeast Asia. From a sit-down meeting with the Dalai Lama in India to drinking gin with a member of the criminal mafia in the Russian Far East to coffee with a homeless street friend at an Anchorage, Alaska McDonalds, My Pursuit of the Axis of Evil will excite, educate, and exhilarate.

MY REVIEW:

My Pursuit of the Axis of Evil: And Other True Stories From Asia and Alaska by Bill Cox
Such a fun, entertaining, educational and political read.
What I love about this book are all the stories included. There is such a wide variety of subjects. There is something for everyone in this book.
Especially like the charity work the author coordinates with others to make miracles happen, getting donations for surgeries, lining up doctors to perform their magic and other expenses associated with getting the patient to the right place.
Other times he's out in nature, improving the land we live in, for the future. Again he has so many that he knows who to call on for help.
Love reading about nature hikes climbs, and fishing expeditions and what to use for bait. Yes some of the stories at comical at times. Some shocked me while the author was on a plane ride, during dinner. You can't make this stuff up!
Learned more about snow caves, island where sheep live and provide a means for the family to live there while sheep are tended to.
The locations and places experienced just bring tears to the corners of my eyes. Such a treasure to read about these places in our world.
There needs to be an appointment made by the government as the author is more than an ambassador. Imagine the places he'd go to next.
Hope author has other stories that didn't make the cut for this book and that he will come out with another in the series. The stories are too good to not hear about them all.
Style of writing I like, it's not girly, frilly but down to earth honest events that took place. Check the book out for yourself. You will NOT be disappointed.
This is one of my top 12 for this year!

Rolling Up Revenge by Emmie Lyn
First time reading this series and enjoyed it very much. Starts out with Dani and she's attending the Maine Blueberry Festival in town among many others who also have crafts and food with blueberries in mind.
There are issues, chaos, drama and dead people.
Loved hearing about the stands at the festival. When I heard of the lobster molds I went to amazon right away and not only saw lobster claw cookie cutters but there was one set that had many other sea life and i had to buy it. Can't wait to make them w for Easter sugar cookies this year.
Lot of characters and it's quite easy to keep track of what is who. Didn't feel like I had missed anything but reading this as my first book in this series. Love that they include recipes at the end. Great stand alone read.
Fun, entertaining, twists and turns and magical weddings that you never thought could ever take place with everything else going on. Love how the whole town comes together to help with the clues and to help others who are in need of it.
Received a review copy of this book from Tule Publishing and this is my honest opinion.

The Dogwood Days of Summer by Laurie Beach
This story starts out with Anna Brooke and she's left the guy she had spent many years with after college. She and he both knew it was going nowhere. He couldn't even show up for the big birthday celebration she made for him.... She heads back home and moves in with her parents but not after a weeks stay at the old camp ground she had spent while growing up. She does have everything she owns in he back of her car and has not figured out what came next. She does have a job at the local island winery, in tasting room where she passes out the drinks herself.
The family bring her old boyfriend to the house and they have no words for one another.... her grandmother is a bit crazy and ends up with a medical emergency. Her mother was a teacher at one point and now retired, doesn't talk much to her spouse.
Her best friend also works with her at the winery and they spend many a nights together watching tv and doing normal things for best friends. The woman at the office has a bridal emergency and they all pitch in.
How they determined where to hold the bridal ceremony makes perfect sense. Lots of work to be done.
Nate has also returned to his childhood island as well and that gives the both of them time to try again. She had lost the duck with his phone number on it. somebody had stolen it.  She never knew where he went or why but we learn all that as the story goes along.
Love location as I grew up on a small island off the coast. Wonder if I can access our lighthouse the same way they did, but I know o f others who have an actual key.
So much past and the present is going against them from ever matching up again.....
Love the craziness and all the different generations at one time. Easy to keep track of who is who. So many issues and so many solutions.
Can't wait for the next in this series, although they are all stand alone books.
Received a review copy of this book from Tule Publishing and this is my honest opinion.

Say This, Not That: The Couple's Playbook for Healthier Communication & Unbreakable Connection by Alden Pierce
This book concentrates on communication among couples and others relationships. I love the ending chapters about digital and social media especially text cause you can't tell the tone of the message being sent.
There are also chapters that challenge you to try different things: rearrange words you want to say; stop and listen before you speak. Also a section on triggers and cues from what the person is doing with their arms and facial expressions.
There's also a non verbal section I found interesting. With practice this book can solve a lot of problems people are having. There are references listed at the end of the book.

An Insider's Guide to Rome: Discover Ancient Ruins, Secret Underground Sites, Vatican City, Museums & the Locals' Favorite Cafés, Bars, Markets, Parks, Hotels and Restaurants (Insider Travel Series) by Marco Ryan
This book is not your typical tour guide book. There are certain ways to understand how to use it properly ma:ke sure you read the intro. There are many chapters that cater to accommodations hotel versus B&B etc, there are also sections for the best restaurants, the best shopping areas, the best gardens and sites to see. And so much more. The author explains some tips along the way that he has found are favorable to tourists. There is so much to see and do: make sure you understand a little bit about the language and are able to use if. Some tricky things are transportation not only trains but the metro, the airport, bikes, and taxis. Make sure you read these. I like the section about the underground Rome and the gardens and all the catholic (castles) churches that are available to the public. There are links in the text that you can click on and QR Codes so you can see what else you need to learn about. Especially like the chapter on photographing things.  There is a list of things you can bring and should bring and there's a list of things that you should not bring with you at all. It explains about the best pictures you'll be able to take and the etiquette of not taking pictures of others etc.
References are included at the very end.
Lots of digital apps that are linked in the book, there are so many in every subject available.  Plan ahead with these apps.
Very useful reference book.

Stay Strong by Roman Gurung
Stay strong this balance and strength exercising written by the author who is a Doctor is very straightforward. Explains about the techniques that you should be doing on a daily basis. Shows how to do them with pictures in the book and explanation of words that tell you how to do them. There are also clickable links to purchase for yourself some aids that will help but not necessary.  The book starts out with basic exercises. There is another section for advanced series of exercises.

At the very end of the book there are holistic strategies that would improve your balance and strength exercising as you age as a senior. There are also sections about food, anti-inflammatory foods you should be eating, sleep and of course exercises and so much more. This is definitely a book to keep handy and use every day .  Chart your status and see how much you improve over a week's time or longer time. It will be well worth it.
A KEEPER!

Mixology for Beginners: Mix Simple classic cocktails like a pro every time to Impress your guests and host the perfect party byLBDEV PUBLISHING ENTERPRISES
What I like about this book is that there are so many recipes, classics and some no so classic.  I've heard many of the names nearby where others order their drinks and glad the bartender knows how to make them all.
What I learned:
Most importantly are the history of the drinks and how they came about,
what additives to use, experiment a bit with, the type of glass, type of ice cube, and so much more.
Super love that the author allows you to experiment with making your ow classic drink mixture. Love the summer and winter holiday ones and what embellishments are made to make it so special.
References are included at the end.
Great resource book to keep handy.

Caveman’s Guide to Unstoppable Success Stone Age Secrets: Lead Boldly. Think Primal. Win Big: Stone Age Secrets for Leadership, Motivation, Confidence, Emotional Intelligence, Mindset, Effective Habits by Sophie Ellington
This book contains information and align it with things that happened during the Stone age. There are references to other empires over the years and they are noted in references. Beginning of some chapters also have a bulleted list of goals. The rest of the chapter explains how to achieve those goals during the Stone age and today's age to get them accomplished.
A good suggestion is the story telling but you have to keep the people that are hearing it active and entertaining so they won't fall asleep. It explains how to do that with visual things.
There are challenges throughout that you should participate in. There are also things the author requests you to do like write things down. Good comparison tool every week/month to see how changes made make a difference.
References in order that the end of the book also.
