The Last Bottle by Marcia Breece
This story starts out with Ted who's 18 and he plays violin with the girl down the street Audrey who plays the piano and sings. She's 15 and she's pregnant and Ted is the father. He discusses the issue with his father a colonel and they decide to make things right by going over to their house because they want a civil ceremony. What happens when they arrive is very unexpected: the movers are packing up the whole house. The family has left with no forwarding address to share. Ted ends up joining the military and he never forgets about Audrey. He keeps trying to find out where they left for. The story also follows Audrey but it also follows her mother and her past life with their father who is in Paris during the war. Some of the family go there and one of the sisters goes elsewhere to keep her safe. They have a solution to Audrey's baby after it is born. The book follows a story about the vineyard and how they made the wine and how they kept it away from the German military who came to their house. The girls were smart enough to hide away because Audrey knew exactly where to go in the cellar not to be seen. DNA tests have been done throughout the course of the book. There are many connections with others that they have no idea how they could be related to them. It all comes out in the end and the story helps you figure out how it happened and who everyone is. Things get a little bit crazy because there's so many people involved at this point. Shock has set in for Audrey as she answered the phone and hung up on them when they asked to talk to their stepsister. As far as Audrey knew she had no step sister and she had to question her mother about everything that had happened in the past. It's a good story lots of travel. There's fashion and there's food especially during wartime. Great read.
