Books read Feb 6

Temperance's' Trial by Hallee Bridgeman
Dedication starts this book off and prologue goes over the 1940's in France from one families life.
Marie and her brother are sent away as the soldiers come to get their father. They escape and get separated and she ends up in England in 1941.
With her new identity and papers she is sent to occupied France where with the help of others she's posing as a seamstress but is really a coder.
She collects information and codes it into the machine and sends them off to England to help them overtake the soldiers in France.
There is one time she learns of the farmers and they are going to be captured and while trying to send a message about the fires she is not so careful about the wireless machine.
Hard to read about the torture they put her through til a German soldier that she's friends with comes to her rescue but that's not the end of the story.
It continues on in the next book.
The real events that inspired this book are also told, British words and phrases, French and German are also explained.
Other cool things are vehicles are explained.
Next books in the series are summarized and there are discussion questions for your club to answer.
Many quotes from the Bible are also given. Excerpt from the next book is included at the end.
About the author is included also at the end along with links to her social media sites.
Other works by the author are highlighted also.

Robert B. Parker's Little White lies
Fast paced mystery thriller book where PI Spenser  gets a case from a woman who's been swindled by a man, a land deal where she lost millions.
It leads to not only the streets of Boston but ones in Lynn where I had a neighbor who was raised there.
Also travel to the south on more leads and also an inside man that sometimes helps.
Like how this ends and I can see more from this author along the same lines.
Love that it also involved Walden Pond in Concord as we've visited there...
Like also that he's involved with a woman himself now.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Milly and the Macy's Parade by Shana Corey and Brett Hequist
1924 and Milly's father works at Macy's. They miss their country, Poland and they figure out a way to celebrate with others: Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas.
Can't go caroling to everybody in New York City and Milly talks to Mr. Macy with an idea of a parade.
Cute children's story.

Gus and Grandpa at the hospital by Claudia Mills
Listened to this story and grandpa had a heart attack and Gus is scared of the hospital.
Gus visits and he helps to open the mail-he opens the mail from the lottery that they had picked numbers for...
As his mother brings him to the hospital she explains about tubes attached to his body. His dad comes out to bring him in.
Grandpa shows Gus how to adjust the bed and asks about the mail.
Was a long week til grandpa came home-he helped feed the dog, got mail, water grass and other chores he liked doing.
Gus has a surprise for him when he arrives back home...glad others help to get rid of fear from Gus.
They didn't win the lottery but grandpa has a surprise of his own and it's like winning a million dollars.

Silly Tilly's Valentine by Lilian Hoban
Listened to this story and it's about Tilly and shes baking  heart cupcakes for her friends.
It's snowing and she tries to remember why the day is a special one. She heads out in the snow,
everything is white. She sees a red color near the mailbox.
She had not forgotten at all, it was Valentines' Day. Cute child story.

17 Things I'm not allowed to do anymore by Jenny Offill
An idea that the boy has are not good ones but harmful, now he's no longer able to do them...
The things would either harm him or someone else.
I can just imagine the pictures in this children's book.
Love the one where he's not longer able to order his mother some food, like a waitress.
SO funny.

Gus and Grandpa at Basketball by Clauia Mills
Listened to this book and it's about Gus who likes to practice and hear some noises.
Game noise is so different, SO loud.  Grandpa explains some things and gives Gus some tips.
Gus likes the yellow jersey and hope he can do well to get a trophy.
Grandpa shows him how his hearing aid works-he can turn off noises...
Cute story and love that grandpa comes to the rescue.
Other works are also highlighted.

Where would I be in an evergreen tree by Jennifer Blomgren
Rhyming cute story about a tree and how others use it during the centuries.
Tells of all the animals, birds, and insects along with the ever-changing weather.
Love the parts about flowers and deer.  About the author is included at the end.

An old-fashioned Thanksgiving by Louisa May Alcott
Start starts out with the six siblings and how they are able to save the day for Thanksgiving.
The parents had to leave to help a neighbor and they all pitch in-interesting that they have been paying attention all the years prior
and are able to pull it off. The others doubt they can do it, the two oldest ones.
Younger children go sledding and they hope to have it all done by the time their parents arrive home.
They put the spices in and although they smell a bit different it should be good.
Includes a recipe at the end.
