Book Review: The Children's Blizzard by Melanie Benjamin

The Children's Blizzard by Melanie Benjamin
Story is about how different teachers in different areas of the west during the 1880's handle the winter months teaching kids.
The agents are paid money as they have made accommodations for people from the east to travel to the west, get free land and make a good living, off the land.
They were NOT told the truth. So many immigrants from the Eastern countries of England.
A rare warm day for January, nobody had brought or worn winter clothes. All of  a sudden the storm came upon them, dropping the temperature, then the winds started, blowing out windows.
Firewood was low and some had to leave to find shelter.
They have lived through fires that they had played together as a game was being played, stepping on the fires and beating them with their hands to put them out.
Such tragedies are told and I can picture the disasters in my mind.
Very emotional story as the teachers were also harmed by the experiences.
Love how this book came about, know author has done her research and created a great storyline to go along with real events.
Received this review copy from Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine via from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
