Seven Nights with a Scot (All The King’s Men, #1) by Gerri Russell
1500s  Story starts out with Vivian and she's helped King James with her visions, keeping him and others safe.
He's ailing and wants her wed and knows just who. It's an elderly man and she takes care of him and within months he dies.
She leaves before his son Rupert takes over.  She's a witch and knows about the bounty over her head. She's now been promised to Reed. Quinn almost runs her over and he is able to save her life.
He tends to her wounds and tells her of the plans for his brother Reid to wed her.
On their journey they are held up with a bunch of men who want the witch.  Hand fights occur with his two riding partners.
They decide to go through the mountains where her maid approaches them, Gillis who joins their group.
While they hide out at Vivian's friends convent they are able to catch up on eating, sleep and healing.  Love the herbs and gardening talk and what herbs will cure which ailments, so cool!
Sister is trying to talk her into going after what she wants-Quinn rather than waiting for his brother Reid.
Love all the secret passageways that were there from time of the Templars and druids. Some history in those walls!
Like it when she trusts him with her secrets and they maneuver to different areas to keep away from harm.
Kidnapped again....  so much action and adventure and mystery.
Love this book because of the travel, history, romance, learning new words and explanations of herbs used and for what ailment, so educational, Templar mentioned.
So much to this story and hate to see it end, taking my time reading it...
Never imagined book ending as it does, wow!  Series listing of next books and excerpt from the next are included.
Endnotes are included where there is research material shared with reader about the time period and witches. Few sex scenes.
About the author is included at the end.  Can't wait to read more from this author.
Won this at Tule #8 birthday party from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Winter House by Joanne DeMaio
This book starts out with dedication and then the table of contents. Story starts out with Dean on the west coast and a call from his father on the east coast with something to mull over.
Dean makes his decision and he's back in Addison living at the family house and running the lighting store on the side of it. His father moved to an apartment over the general store in town.  Dean is so busy with walk in customers and the train depot chandelier spruce up in time for the holidays.
The fence fascinates me with names.  Like the legend of the original owners, the sea captains and the reference Dean makes to Josiah. At first I thought it was a cat he keeps in the shop...
Millie Ives is out of a job, her boyfriend left and she has a room at her sisters til she's on her feet. While having lunch she looks over the jobs and finds one she knows she could do, puzzles: clerk: answer phones, scout scenes for new puzzles, marketing, etc.  She also then looks through house listings and finds the open houses for that weekend. She drives up to many of them an now they are beyond her budget or house is just too big for her.
She falls in love with farmhouse style cabin and it comes with some furniture. Love tour at night as a group walk around town hearing about the history of the area. Dean takes her mason jar light from her father. She tells him others think a Mr. Winter is a bit cold and tells him that, not knowing who he is.
Scenes are just so very festive, the decorating is out of this world and light everywhere
Love catching up with characters from past books, glad to know they are thought of during this time of the year. Gus with his snowocycle and Derek with his boat parade, etc.
Dean and Millie are often thrown together as others meddle with getting everyone together.
Turmoil between Dean and his father Hank and Dean is so stubborn to ask for help...
Story goes on with the festivities for all to enjoy while they also enjoy each others company.
Love all the town and family traditions, so magical and festive, brings the whole town out to celebrate.
Things go so well for Dean and Millie til they don't any more.... Angel mist, so cool!  Maybe it will bring them all back together.
Love hearing how Dean uses his hands to make a living, so cool! Procedures he follows are so detailed it's fun to 'watch' a career being done.
Millie also using photographs to make puzzles and that process are also explained.
Works by the author are listed at the end along with about the author. Can't wait for another book from her.
I received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

With Net and Coble A Salmon Fisher on the Cromarty Firth by George Chamie
Love the poems throughout, the pictures and legends, superstitions and history and maps and so much more.
Scotland: This is a book about how the old timers would fish for salmon. What a skill to have to get the fish. Everything is well explained about how to do it.
Even one by themselves could do the job but it's very hard, harsh conditions and so much could go wrong and you'd lose it all.
Love the memories of 1960's and songs about ...flowers in your hair... I so recall those tunes also.
Love hearing of the cairns and other  methods of fishing were done since centuries when it first started. The spear fishers I recall doing that on the shores here in NorthEast when it was almost winter the fish would beach themselves on the shore.  Easy to spear.
There are so many mentioned that are now gone. Also story behind why the salmon are no longer caught this way.
Follows the author from a young age and all through his life and where he was at different times of his years and he does go back to the old way of fishing for salmon.
We had one species of salmon from the southern highlands of Scotland and it was the best we have ever had, Wester Ross salmon.  That was one reason why I wanted to read this book.
Other is I love to hear about how others use their hands to make a living, whether it be fishing, gardening or sewing or working with metals.
Now the environmental agencies own the area. Love hearing exactly where they would locate the best fish and knew which ones to stay away from.
Tragic times also, with monofilament lines, with waders a few went under and couldn't get back to the top of the water.
Like hearing of the downtime when there's nothing to watch for so you take a nap on the beach and get to talk to your fellow fisher people to really get to know them.
So fun to listen about parties and cooking on the beach with fish and there are even recipes included in this story.
We have recreated a clam boi here in town at a relatives house where they dug a big hole in the ground and layered the clams and other foods with hay and seaweed and hours later it was done.
It was heavenly and so fresh tasting.  The smelters went into production and author moved away...
So many problems arose over time and the author goes into detail about the problems and why they played a part in shutting down some of the industry.
Air over water is different than air over land.  Reasons why author doesn't like farming salmon, in water using cages.
Birds and raptors of the area are discussed.
Reflections chapter ends the book along with a poem, The Last Fishers. Love how a fisher can be woman or man. Glossary is included at the end
and many acknowledgements. Such an awesome read.  So many more pictures and what fascinates me is everybody is always smiling, they enjoy what they were doing.
I received this review copy from Pen & Sword, Pen & Sword History via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Dad by Steven Manchester
What I like about this book is that there are parts in there that remind me of my dad and things he did through the years.
Love that the relationships change as time goes on as they draw closer to one another.
They are all strong and brave in their own way and got each others backs. Hard parts are the struggles but rewards come through from the hard work done.
Big hands, this is so my father. I think the more work he did is testament to them being so large. I recall when he worked up to 4 jobs a day, He also treasured family especially at holidays.
It was unwritten but you had to be at family gatherings, even if you had to bring your in=
laws with you that was accepted also.
Thanks to all who helped make this book, so much research, love local places mentioned that are no longer around.
Can't wait for the next book from this author.
A KEEPER!  Beautiful story.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Murder on the Naval Base by Behcet Kaya
Like this story because it goes to present day then goes back alternating chapter style so you can find out the sordid details of the relationships before the murder.
Lot of entanglements when Devon was not able to win the prize of a rich husband that she wanted, thanks to his mother. Instead she picks his friend but they join up again and so many find out, all but the husband.
Love hearing of the pilot training and achievements and how he is able to cope with the nighttime images that plague him even decades after his mother is no longer alive.
They both have a lot in common, mostly their past growing up with no parents.
He is really into his career and travels all over the US for not only training but schooling. She stays in one location and he hopes to find them together upon his surprise early entrance...
Like hearing how the others in the unit treat him in different phases of his work.
Like how all the pieces are fitting together til we see the final picture and who it was that really killed the couple in public.
Unbelievable ending, never saw THAT coming, whoa!  SO many details come to light at the court trial
Really like this author's style of writing and have read many of his works.  Something for everyone in this story.
Relationships over the years, travel, adventure, careers, love, romance, tiny details are so important.
About the author and his upcoming works are highlighted at the end.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

A Magical New York Christmas by Anita Hughes
To me this is a book with two stories. One is the ghost writer taking notes about an author for his autobiography and the other story is of the current relationships enjoying the holiday season in NYC.
This story follows a ghost writer that lives in NY and is put up at the Plaza hotel during the Christmas holiday weeks.
She listens to the author tell her of his life over the years and she translates it into his life story for him.
Sabrina has seen a man that attracts her and they play with one another: they have no idea who each of them really is.
He gives her jewelry and her boss gives her dress outfits to wear to the snowflake ball.
The descriptions are so exact and I want to visit the city during the holidays to see it for myself. Money is no object for the men but they are for Sabrina.
The men know they must tell her who they are....and after he confesses you can't believe how she takes it....
Love how the blast from the past makes everything magical.
Confusing at times as you don't realize the time frame the story is in...
Received this review copy from the publicist via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Hears things but when he goes to investigate there's nothing there, Til there is...

Arts and Crafts in the Middle Ages by Julia de Wolf Gibbs Addison
What I like about this book is the vast knowledge of the way things were done in the past.
Starts with an introduction about the arts in the middle ages and how they were each done.
Covers a lot of the metals: gold, silver and the smithing of the metals. I have seen the craft done at villages that cater to the older days and how they did things by hand, no machinery involved.
Book also covers embroidery and other fine needle arts. I was hoping to see a chapter on crochet or knitting but it's not included.
Also covers an immense area using pictures of the works done throughout the book. SO much information to delve into.
Also sculptures and the differences between countries how they did the art back in the middle ages.
I recall several movies I have watched where there are people who are paid to write a book, transcribe it from the original and it takes years if not decades.
Large list of bibliography index at the end of the book.
Other works by the publisher are listed at the end.

A Christmas Visitor by Anne Perry
This is a tale of a murder at Christmastime. The mother, son and father had gone to a festive show and then came back home.
The father leaves to take a walk.  He never comes back.  The police do find his body and the questions start as things are not right about the whole thing.
The other family members show up, some with spouses and everybody helps with collecting the clues to piece this puzzle together.
First off there is chatter about the deed to the house and lands. Forged documents and who is to gain comes up. Body was found upriver but river was flowing in the opposite direction.
I never thought for a minute it was who they discover, such crime solving skills they have.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas

Comical at times as the kids talk about years gone by when they were younger and the fun things they

would do around the holidays. Such fun memories.

I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Christmas at the Restaurant (The Nantucket Restaurant series Book 2) by Pamela M. Kelley

About the author starts this book and how to contact her.

Nantucket at Christmas. Love hearing of the stroll.

Family inherited the restaurant with understanding they all had to work at it for a full year. After that others left the island but make visits still while others stayed on.

Work is going great with more being served. The stroll brings out a special menu along with wine from a nearby location combining efforts to serve the bigger crowds.

Love hearing about the the celebrations, even the small ones that pack a punch. So many fun times and things anybody can do during the season.

Food sounds so delicious wish the book had a recipe or two.  Lots of family get togethers and bonding with workers. Enjoy the tour of the island and sites. Grew up on an island and

remember when Santa would arrive on the police boat, very similar to this story. So memorable.

Especially love the Christmas angel, one who hears of other misfortunes and magically within days the problem is solved, usually due to one who donated money or goods to the unfortunate ones.

I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Sand Dollar Summer by Kimberly K. Jones
Story starts off with Lisa who's twelve and she watches her strong brave mother as her life crumbles with a car accident.
Everything goes downhill from there for Lise. Her mom moves them to Maine at a beach, where she learns so much more about her mother's past life growing up there.
She is terrified of the sea but gets help from her mother's male friend. He helps take care of her mother and figures out a way to make her legs work a bit better, in the ocean.
Loved hearing of the things she could be herself on the island and to be able to read as much as she wanted. Love the people she meets, the true islanders who become her friends.
Especially like Ben who lives in a shanty near the shore and he's very old and explains about ocean to her and other things dealing with the lcoale. Shark took necklace, sounds so cool...
The hurricane is due to hit them and some take care to board up their places against the fierce wind and rains. We had just gone through three here in RI in the past 3 weeks time and have endured the 36 hours of salty rain and winds and no electric.
Have gone through so many more here in my life so I can imagine how she really feels. She is caught off guard and tries to outrun the storm as you watch her struggle in the waves, at the rock shore.
Love watching her mom get strong again and how she is able to find things along the beach, using her walker.  Peaceful ending for some on the island and it makes you stronger.
Enjoyed this read and it was scary at times. Love legend of sand dollar, very delicate.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

His mother comes to him in his dreams, haunting.

A Cup of Christmas Tea by Tom Hegg
Told in a rhyming fashion.
Story of a man in high school that has received an invite to visit his elderly aunt. He remembers when she was so active and since the stroke he's avoided her, only wants to remember her the way she was.
He goes there and is amazed at how she still decorates every nook and tabletop with festive things. He is also amazed that she can still get around and makes them tea.
He can't believe she is also very much interested in the things he does. He was so dreading going and now he's thoroughly happy and to me it seems he will visit more often.
It's hard to visit those who are aging in front of our eyes and it's the visits they really count on no matter how much they really hurt us.
Had asked my spouse on a trip to Ohio several  years to go visit his aging uncle in a nursing home, he had dementia and didn't even know who we were but he enjoyed his time with us and remembering his brothers and wives and though we were one of them.
Hurt us but we really needed to go and last time there was last picture we have of him with us. Sad not many other relatives out of the hundreds who even lived closer wouldn't go visit.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Christmas Memory by Truman Capote
First time reading this author and enjoying the memories of the season.
1956 author lives with many relatives in Alabama and tells us of his memories around the autumn getting closer to Christmas.
He gives descriptive details of all the scenes in front of him.  Woman lives still in her childhood days although she's  in her late 80s.
They take the baby carriage and go to the garden, it's used for everything they need it for.  They collected nuts for their first fruitcake , they want to make 30 of them.
Next day they will shop at the store and know exactly what they need. No money so how will they buy the groceries.
They've earned money all year long selling off some things at the farm. Like where they hide their fruitcake money. The woman has never been to the movie.
She gives him ten cents to go see a movie then sit and tell her about the movie.  Love list of everything she has done, classic.   They even made money killing flies in August.
Relatives decide it's time for him to enter the military and off he goes. He still gets fruitcake every year and he's amazed as to how she can do it  all herself.
Sad at the end but the memories are golden.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

The Christmas Tree Ship by Jennette Winter
Cute holiday story about a family that always brought Christmas trees to the city from the nursery they grew the trees to the city.
1887 along the Michigan waters Capt. Herman always brought the trees to the city of Chicago.  Wife and girls watched him go one cold winter morning.
Lake Michigan was quiet and he sailed along Chicago River to deliver the trees.  One year the ship hit a blizzard and the log had a message to his family.
Tree ship never made it to the city. Fisherman found trees caught up in their nets but no fisherman. Bottle in the message never made it to the family.
The wife and girls helped their mother carry on their fathers work.  They sang carols along the way and people of the city welcomed them.
Nice to hear of the tradition going on. About the author is included. Listened to this book and understand there are sketches in the book.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

The Magic School Bus Makes a Rainbow: A Book About Color by Joanna Cole, Jocelyn Stevenson,
This book I listened to and it starts out with about the author and about the illustrator.
Starts out with kids asking the teacher why the colors are in the order they are.
The kids talk among themselves and experiments they try to do. The closet is making noises and they go to investigate.
She teaches them how to use the machine and how to use regular white light to make a rainbow.
Field trip takes them to magic bus. They go into the machine, prisms and colors, so magical.
Teacher shows them to game to play to make the colors. I have seen the prisms in my eyeglasses and in my magnifying glass, it so so cool and you can easily get lost just watching as you turn just a tiny bit.
I can just imagine how colorful this book is.  They have a problem getting out of the machine til one thinks harder about it...
Letters to the editors are included at the end.  Note from the teacher also and she talks about transparent items will allow light to go through.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Stalker Stalked by Lee Matthew Goldberg
A bit more creepier than I thought it would be. About a young woman and she's involved in many things.
Story goes back to her present boyfriends and past ones, the sex is not explicitly in detail but it's mentioned from time to time.
Like the drama of the society shows and the scenes that come to life.
At times she goes to extremes to get her boyfriend back by stalking him and also dressing in an animal costume to take sex pics of a girl she wants to friend and more.
She is also being stalked and watches for the shadows. She tries to prove to herself that she knows what to look for and she's better at stalking then the stalker them self.
Lexi has a run in with the doctor she sells pharma drugs to when he starts massaging her shoulders...
She fantasizes with the detective who questions her about the doctor and his complaint against her. She's very open...
Love the relationships she has with Pria and how she's there to get her up and dressed and cleaned up when she's been laying low for a several days with no contact.
Lexi does not reciprocate. Intervention from Pria and a lot of accusations about how Lexi is really turning into her mother sets Lexi's head on straight again...
Between reality shows and being on a new tv show you wonder what parts were the drugs and hallucinations and which were real.
She takes others advice and the outcome is quite a miracle. She has her own ideas of a new show, how to help others who are being stalked but she may not live to do much of anything...
About the author and their other works are listed at the end.
Kept my interest and couldn't put it down.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

Noisy Book by Margaret Wise Brown
Listened to this story about the small puppy who has a cinder in his eye and the vet puts patch over his eye.
We hear the sounds he hears, love how they speak the sounds of everything around them, on his way home.
I can just imagine the pages in this book being so colorful.
Cute story and teaches you that you can see things by hearing the sounds, not by seeing them.
Never realized she had so many other books dedicated to sounds.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

To be wanted at Christmastime by Gerald D. Sullivan
One story is about an adopted boy that's been bullied at school and he meets an old man and has a proposal for him....
The old man  he will play Santas helper  if he gets snowed in at a school the next day. . Hotel has food in the morning and the boy and prinicapl show up to take him to  school .
Christmas bus I really enjoyed as the old man helps others with math homework and gets to listen to kids sing holiday tunes. He gets the perfect gift when he arrives at his destination.
Black tree and black ornament was interesting story seen from a black boys eyes. Teacher gets him.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Royal by Danielle Steel
1934 and Charlotte the youngest of the princesses is being sent, with her horse to stay with an older couple in the country.
That will keep her safe from the war bombings and due to her asthma. The couple have a boy her age, who plans to enlist in the army soon,  and another lady stays with them as well to help them with chores.
The older princesses are able to do things useful for the country.
Her name will be different also and she is so sad to be leaving. She  falls in love and they get married and have the baby while he serves the country.
Unimagineable things occur and Lucy, the orphan who helps out the couple ends up with the baby and she knows who the parents were from letters Charlotte had kept.
Everybody dies and she takes the baby and makes a new life for herself in a new location. She falls in love and they marry and she has twins-her first REAL birth and she needs to keep the secret about the first babys identity to herself.
At some point they could be sitting on the throne ruling over the country...she has plans to get money out of them to live in high style.
Love parts where the royals look over the box of letters and other information and gather her into the folds of their family.  She takes a job at the stables, her favorite spot to be and is able to become a jockey, her life dream.
She had to give up her boyfriend though, it was either the jockey position or him.
Sad book at times but you can also see just how strong she really is.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
