The Lost Sheenan's Bride by Jane Porter
This is the last of this series but another is in the works using some of the same characters.
Starts out with Jet who's staying at her sisters B&B in Montana while she works at the one room schoolhouse taking care of a handful of children from different grades, temporarily.
Once the last teacher gives birth and comes back the district may decide the children need to go to school via the bus to another town so she may be out of work.
Story also follow Shane who's paying to stay at the Sheenan family home while he writes. His past makes him believe he is one of the Sheenans' but proof is hard to come by, although the DNA proves he is one of them.
They go out as she's fascinated that he's the author of the books she's read and loved them.
He's just there trying to make friends with them but they are not very welcome. He believes his mother's ghost still resides at the ranch as he investigates more clues about his past life.
The Sheenan members now know Shane is there to write a story of a family murder and they don't want him to investigate.
They post eviction papers on the house so he's only got 30 days left now and not enough time to write the story he's been paid for.
Jet really likes and feels comfortable and natural with Shane, but many others see them and tell her to stay away from him...
Like this book because you are made welcome with the characters even if you've not read the previous books there's enough information about everybody to understand what's going on.
Like also the detailed descriptions as the author writes to make you feel like you can see what's before you-the scenery, nature, sounds, smells, etc.
Some details of the past murders unfolds. Like the explanations of all the tattoos, so interesting, a story in themselves. Loved sight seeing tours of Butte, sounds like a treasure to see all the preservation.
Jet knew she might have some important information as she's talked to a woman who lived there at the time of the murders. She knows she should just walk away from it all...
Excerpt from the next book-in the new series but a continuation of this series as well is included.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
The Mermaid Collector by Erika Marks
Have read many of the authors other works and have enjoyed them. This one starts out in the present day and she is finishing up her sculpture of the mermaid. It's a big commission. Tess is back with Peter and Buzz maintains the cottages.
Tom Grace shows up and is given the keys to the lighthouse keeper's cottage a gift from Frank. Only he, Buzz and Frank know of what's happened. Dean is now incapacitated and Tom tends to hes every need. He looks forward to the new adventure and maybe even a local job as he's a school teacher.
Then the book goes back to 1877 where we learn of the legends surrounding Cradle Harbor Maine and the mermaid festival, etc. Lydia and Linus are taking care of the lighthouse, she is relieved he will not be on the sea and her nightmare might go away...she's not able to have babies either...
Alternating sections from the present to the past make this book like actually having two books in one and you hope they will connect with one another, down the road.
Love learning about mermaid purses and hearing of the wind chimes and their connection to the mermaid song... Love hearing the legends and being so close to the water and what it all encompasses. Love the DASH!
Beautiful magical majestic stories. Q&A at the end along with discussion questions.
Won this is a contest.
The weekenders by Mary Kay Andrews
Like these books as they portray real life of today's women's struggles and goals and accomplishments.
Wendell had first started dating her during high school and he promised her a lot. He has a hard time of making them complete.
Riley heading to Belle Island with her daughter, Maggie and her puppy Banks waiting for him to show up for the weekend and she's afraid he's not going to make it.
She realizes her daughter is growing up so fast, she'll be a teen soon. Wendell is working lots more hours and he spends lots of money on handbags for Riley and other expensive things for his daughter.
Full Moon party sounds like a blast. Although I vacationed and lived on an island I didn't go to the parties as there was more drinking and smoking than what I wanted to partake.
Chapters alternate from the past to the present so we can get more clear picture of Riley and Wendell during their teen years.
Hard getting used to all the female friends and all their kids at the first. She's served on the deck of the ferry-he is asking for a divorce!
When the girls arrive at the house they notice a foreclosure on the front door. Their remote controls won't work now....they have nowhere to go but her parents house... Sheriff shows up she hopes to clear up the locked doors but that's not the news he's there to tell her!
Lots of questions ....Why had her husband emptied all bank accounts even her $6 million trust from her family...Wendell had helped her drunk brother with many events and they were entwined in the family development business...
Book also follow Nat, the ferry captain among other jobs. love how he looks after Riley and Maggie. Riley hopes the family can help with finances but there are so many that hold secrets from one another.
Lots of twists, great book of mysteries, secrets, bit of romance, sex and family holdings and dwelling into it all.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
One Pot, Two Plates: 50 Best Pressure Cooker Recipes That Are Perfect For Midweek Meals (Good Food Series)
What I like about this book is that each recipe starts with a fresh page, shows a picture of the completed dish, list of times: prep and cooking, servings
and then ingredient list. Detailed settings for the pressure cooker and how to even make it tastier.
Has a list of some nutritional information, fat content is not broken up into various parts, does not have sodium content but most of the ingredients are on the healthy side, all but vegetable shortening which I'd substitute.
Even has a cheesecake you can make in the pot.
Will be trying this new yogurt recipe tonight.
A KEEPER!
The book fun magazine this month was very interesting.
They seem to bring the books To Life by not only telling you what the book is about but going into question and answers and having offer family pictures that are very important to them along with book trailers. There are even recipes to try and allowing the baker to have the freedom to experiment with different flavors and different combinations.
I am an early reader for The Book Club Network (and you can be one also, check out the links in the magazine to join up, it's free!) and I fulfill my part by requesting books I want to read. I post my reviews within several days of receiving the books, to various sites on the net.
One of the books I had previously read spoke a bit more about the whole series which I just read the second book in the series and can't wait to read the third.
A little bit more in depth with color photos really makes it look like a really good read.
There are so many different types of books available upcoming books for children, middle graders, adults, offering different categories and genres to appeal to the whole family.
Chat with the author interviews also interested me because Nora, the interviewer has such thought provoking questions to ask. She is able to bring up so many more interesting topics of discussion.
Lots of insight to the Catholic religion in the books written about the subject.
Favorite part was the paying it forward. I don’t go through coffee lines but when I visit our historic village where I have free passes I always leave a few behind for those behind me so they don’t have to pay. I knit using knitting pins, about the diameter of pins, costume parts: mittens, hats muffattees, etc where the village provides me with the yarn from their sheep. Love knitting and donate a lot of my time to charity events and as they in turn appreciate me by giving me free passes for my friends and family I don’t mind giving them to others who are also there to appreciate the village experience-just one of many ways of paying it forward.
The magazine to me is like finding the missing puzzle piece as to why I wanted to read the books I've requested. It brings it all together for me.
Indexing at the end is excellent and each of the book pages has useful information about other books the author has also released.
Two thumbs up to all those who work behind the scenes to bring the book fun magazine to us!

Summer pasta salad looks real good to eat!
Attractions by Joshua Smith
Book starts out with him and his family at the amusement park. It's summer and the heat and lines of people waiting are getting to him. There is no place among family outings to get it on with his wife.
They each design their own cars and then they get to ride in them. The father and son in one car, the mother and two girls in the other and they race against one another to design the one that will give them the most points.
He keeps imagining women and their parts as he gets turned on even more. He wonders at times if it's all a dream...
Excerpt from another story is included.
Goodbye for Now by Laurie Frankel
Book starts out with Sam and he's designed a dating program and it's a big hit. He likes Meridith but it takes time for them to really see one another.
After her grandmother passes away he sees how sad she is and knows he has a program using AI that can help and it does and it doesn't.
Really strange happen and they open it to others to try out as they are suffering also. Unheard of what happens next... Few characters easy to keep track of what they each are doing.
Love the scenery and places visited in the book, near Seattle as we've been to many of them.
I received this book from a contest I won.
SURFACE by Stacy Robinson
Story line sounded intriguing. Starts out with Claire and Michael and they have a son Nicholas who's home for the summer from boarding school. He's now 17 and he meets up with his other friends at night.
As Michael has left the country to do business one of his associates shows up and he and Claire hit it off-he's got info on a new project and she questions him about it. What ensues is they end up in bed and he drops his cocaine that Nicky finds and uses-and Nicky is a diabetic.
He ends up in a coma and surgeries and then Michael sends him to a rehab hosptial in LA and Claire goes with him.
Story goes back in time so we can understand Michael and Claire's relationship before they got married, then we are back in the present at the LA rehab place. Nicky is showing progress but Michael who flies in from Denver, CO doesn't think as much as he should be improving. Nickys sees himself as a retard.
Quite a few twists to the story and then other events on top of that make this a good read. Action, mysteries, loss, travel, new friendships and betrayal. She is able to uncover some things that lead her and her friends to think Michael is having an affair. She does learn what it's all about and so much more and she meets him headon with how she can help him.
Like how the book got it's name and yes the mother in law knew it from the start. Crazy plan of hers to help her and her son survive. it's never going to work...
I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest review
Maggie's Rainbow: A Cord of Three Strands, Book 2 by Lydia Moen
I have read book #1 a string of pearls and enjoyed the book so it's a series with the same characters.
This book starts out with Maggie and she's had to call 911 as she hears intruders and glass breaking downstairs. After climbing into the closet the chief of police announces he's there and tells her things about the muffins she has fed him to make her realize he's the good guy.
Misunderstandings all around as her grandson Josh is back from Germany where the military has patched him up. He and his friend are there. Hank is a mess and he gets in a bit of trouble while there. The others have tried to help him but are not sure it's for the best that he remain there....
What I like about this book is the sense of community-love the idea of the gift shop and who is to help/volunteer.
Lots of new places to visit along with the characters. Very descriptive, so detailed you feel as if you are there.
Like all the different ages of the characters and the different struggles they each have and how Al has the right answer for them all, as if by magic the scriptures appear with the appropriate message.
Refreshing way of analyzing the problems, writing them down. Book is rich and plentiful with God's scriptures throughout the hard times.
Love the meaning of the rainbow, strong bond of the three cords, and the twist at the end as we often go on surprise journeys, not telling the other where the end result will be... Can't wait for the next from the three authors.
Wish they had put the recipe for peanut butter goodies in the book.
I received this book from The Book Club Network(bookfun.org) in exchange for my honest review
Ring of Fire by Susan Fox
Have read other works by the author and have enjoyed the books.
This one is about Lark Cantrell and she's the fire chief at Caribou Crossings. Her mother and 10 year old son are used to her leaving in the middle of the night to guide the other firefighters and help put fires out.
I do enjoy firefighter stories as I learn so much from them, interesting topic and I'm not sure why.
Within the first 50 pages I've already learned a few new things: what horn on saddle is for, how CP patients and those with articial legs can do things...
Major Eric Weaver is doing rehab there in British Columbia, on leave from the army when Lark pulls him out of the burning house he was renting. Her son Jayden who has CP and he are paired with horses, it's therapy and I love hearing all about it.
Lark has sworn off men since her husband had walked out after learning their baby had CP but she starts to get hot and bothered about Eric.
She likes how Jayden has another male he can talk to-things she can't relate to...They become lovers over time and then some unexpected things occur that might help or not..
hot steamy sex scenes. Excerpt from a Holiday in Your Heart is also included at the end. Would enjoy reading more of this town in BC.
I received this book from The Kensington Books in exchange for my honest review
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Have read this book many times and always enjoy the read. I seem to get something different out of it each time I read it.
It's about a few families that have migrated to the Salinas valley in CA. Love the detailed descriptions of the flowers in the valley.
The Hamilton family are basically farmers-he had left Ireland and came to CA to farm although his land is rock ridden he knows many things that others profit on.
Also follows a family from the Northeast and he's been in the army, got wounded and came home to his family. He brought back diseases that caused his wife to die. He quickly marries. One female marries Adam Trask and they move out to CA.
Quite the adventure and travel and how the two families become connected. So many lies and deceptions. Glimpses of the war also.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
The Four Seasons by Mary Alice Monroe
The funeral will bring the sisters together: Jillian, Beatrice (Birdy), Rose. Mary the 4th is now dead.
Model in Paris, pediatric doctor and word processor working from the family home, were their professions. In Mary's last wish video they learn she wants them to find Spring and give her the share of her money from the estate.
The book goes back in time to when she told her parents she was pregnant and we learn all the details.
Alternating chapters from the present to the past...She's sent away to a convent for unwed mothers and they will give the baby to a family.
The woman and daughter gather together to trace the one baby given away. Feel the emotions as they go through them, different for each of them as they go onward.
The secret I wonder, will it come out as to who the father could really be or remain a secret forever.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
The Only Way Out by Susan Mallery
Have read many of the authors other works and have been on her street team to promote her books.
This one is a very old one and so different from the Fool's Gold series that I'm actually enjoying the strategy of it all.
Jeff has watched his wife and child die in the blast, Krey is the culprit and in time he will get revenge. On the island he lays low and almost takes Krey out but a woman gets in the way.
It's his ex-wife and she's there to get the child Krey had kidnapped. He runs into her as she's escaping with the child and they plan together how to get off the island when the airports been shut down from Krey's order...
Like the survival skills he teaches her. Bits of romance but really liked the action and adventure.
I actually bought this book because it was one I had never read or was given a copy to review.
Bitsy's Bait and BBQ by Morsi_ Pamela
With the divorce settlement she buys off ebay a B+B.
Emma and Kate and her 5 yo son Josh were on their way...
Humorous and each chapter has tips to help the situation along LOL, It's not a B+B but a bait and BBQ shop...
Story also follows the life of Shawn, he helps him mother run the burger joint. He's gone missing and had married the girl, Kate they hired.
She's made sure the child has child education fund and trust fund for college.
Kate receives a letter stating the father wants to revisit the visitation and sue for custody.. She knows it's not Shawn but his mother that wants the child.
Shawn and his mother and the laywer show up and rent a cabin for the summer while trying to get the grandchild away from their mother. Shawn is not for this at all and helps her in other ways to get her business off the ground thus giving them time to talk to one another...
Like the ideas of how to make the business a success with help from the townsfolk. Sex scenes also. Bit confusing at times with some of the townsfolk drama.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
Avoiding the Medicaid trap, how to beat the catastrophic costs of nursing-home care by -Budish_ Armond D
Many strategies to avoiding paying more for care later in life.
There is so much to this I had to stop and re read many sections as they will relate to me.
1970's version so some tax preparation, laws have changed but still good basic information.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
Sixty plus & fit again, exercises for older men and women by Rosenberg_ Magda
1977 edition but thought I'd check it out. We definitely are more mobile now than 20 years ago and realize the more you keep moving the longer you will live and be healthier.

A Christmas escape by Anne Perry
Starts out when Charlie arrives in Stromboli, a mountainous island off the coast of Greek. He can't wait to walk to the mountain top where the volcano sometimes erupts.
Candace startles him, a 17 year old girl. Like tour of this area as I'll never get to see it for myself, very descriptive!
Events occur that leave a man dead. There are only a handful of people there and the killer is one of them. Charlie takes Candace under his care. They investigate to see who'd want the man dead...
The volcano has erupted!
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
Marry me at Christmas by Susan Mallery
Madeline is the wedding gown store owner. It starts out with some trying the gowns on and it looks like they are pumpkins.
Fool's gold and the bridal shop owner is in charge of all the details of a local bride and groom.
Roselind has just started working there as her kids are back in school now. Madeline helped them be happy with whatever combinations they wanted.
Lots of back story and the characters that live there. This is the town where females are the leaders in every department in the town: mayor, fire chief, event planner, police chief, etc.
Ginger is to be married and the mayor needs her to do everything. Johnny Blaze is the brother of the bride. Wedding will be in 7 weeks time and during the Christmas season.
Story also follows Johnny and he's a movie star, travels a lot and is everybody's love fantasy. Lightening and tingling when they shake tips her off that she's found her 'one' as her mother would say, it's a family trait.
Have read all the other Christmas holidays books in this series and the same events happen with live nativity.
Lots of pregnant women and the men they are married too, we are brought up to date with their lives. Predictable ending.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
Seashell Season by Holly Chamberlin
Have enjoyed other books by the author. This one starts out with Verity and she's staying at her friends house while she gets her life back in order after leaving her boyfriend Alan.
Her daughter Gemma is with her and Barbara will babysit while Verity works. One day she gets a call that Gemma is gone, Alan took her.
She gets on with her life after many years go by getting back into her artsy side and actually getting a job at the local college. The call she thought she'd get it's 17 years later and they have her daughter and will board you on a plane from AZ to ME.
She is beside herself as the town has backed her the whole 17 years with support. She has so many unanswered questions about how her daughter was raised. Alan is put in prison and he's lied to Gemma about everything he told her. Her mother is alive and so is her grandmother...
Alternating chapters on how each one is dealing with being reunited. Love the beach and the collecting of the seashells.
At times the book gets boring as it's over 400 pages long. There's a huge story behind the pages though and glad I was able to get through all of it. As it's boring there are also many twists and turns along the way, helping to tell the story of the two females as others come and go into their life's.
Q&A at the end and discussion questions.
I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest review

VITAL TEMPTATIONS
Story line sounded interesting as she will put love on hold and it's based in Seattle.
Bethany and her friend are gonna head out for the Greek performance...they bump into some men and she ends up finding him sitting next to her in the seminar the next day, Brent.
She's a resident at the WA hospital and she is trying to get over her ex boyfriend. They meet often and she gets advice from her roommate, Danielle about dating.
Love hearing of the Seattle places they've frequented-we long to go back, wish we could go more often than once a year to visit the kids.
They become more than friends and hot steamy sex scenes as they learn more about one another. Her friend Caleb takes her for a ride and she is able to see Brent with another woman and she's so hurt...
She recalls her childhood and when her mother was on the floor crying her eyes out because her father was seeing many other women. She finds out the truth about Brent and it hit her like a ton of bricks...
Bethany still has her career to concentrate on and new relationships to discover. Brent still haunts her no matter where he relocates.
Enjoyed the other travel available and the details of a new place. Very detailed descriptions of the pediatric doctoring.
When she becomes pregnant she has to make the right choice and there are so many ways it could go. Surprise ending for many.
Although there are just a handful of characters it's easy to keep them straight as people they work with come in and out of their lives.
Enjoyed the book, travel, learning a bit about the pediatric career and the romance.

THE STEEPLECHASE BY CARRIE FANCETT PAGELS
Wanted to read this book as we are in the horseracing season and am always looking forward to learning new things.
Horses intrigue me as I've never ridden one nor know much about.
Starts out with Martha and her stepmother and child have left the country-usually she takes 6months away from her father and other children.
Martha's brother friend is always trying to get her to marry him but she doesn't see him in that fashion. He has other plans...
The story also follows Phillip and his family estate encompass an academy and other lands. He works at the stables there but not many know of his expertise...
He thinks he's been sent an angel-Martha. Martha prays to God often and she thinks he is hearing her prayers as she's been sent and put in Phillip's world.
The race she learns about and plans to enter, as a male as females aren't usually welcomed. She makes a bet with Phillip-he not knowing she will race at all.
Twists in the story are unexpected but welcome. This is a light read and held my attention to the end.
Author's other works are highlighted at the end of the book. Some look interesting as they are based in the 1800's.
